I just browsed the ASUS site to refresh my memory of the features I have on my ASUS ROG Strix Z590-A Gaming MB. I went into the Drivers section and noticed there was a new Bios version 1701. That's a big jump from 1402 I noticed last Fall.
Anyone install the new one yet and if so how is it working out?

Happy New Year to All!!!!

Most of the BIOS updates, lately, have been for things like...
Win 11 security stuff, ransomware stuff, and just the general: oh, this would be cool", stuff.

Currently... it's mainly for ransomware stuff. There's been a bunch of new ransomware beasts floating around, in the past 2-5 months.

Generally... update the BIOS about once every other year. That should keep you fairly up-to-date.
Update the chipset drivers about twice a year.

The rest of the driver or BIOS updates... aren't really that important.

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
Thanks for the reply. I went ahead and updated the MEI first and then done the BIOS update to 1701 and all went well. NO problems so far.

Cheers

If the BIOS update was gonna give you problems, they would happen instantly.

Just keep all your drivers up to date unless it's bloatware, if you're concerned wait two weeks before flashing/updating. Let others be the guineau pigs.
This is especially true w/ windows updates btw

Thanks SDMF I actually was late in checking the ASUS drivers site so that's why I posted to see if others had a smooth install.

No problem just remember if you run into any problems updating the new bios & you are a few bios versions behind sometimes you might have to update them incrementally (one version at a time till you have the newest one). I have never had this issue but I dont ever skip versions
