ASUS ROG Strix Z790-A Gaming LGA 1700 - BIOS 1801 - Update problems ?

Ok looks better... It reinstalled BIOS and ME. Now I am in BIOS Screen !! says BIOS 1801 and see's my i7-14700K. It all looks ok. Except my memory is showing 4800MHz and should be 7000Mhz. Any thoughts ? :) Oh Think I need to turn ON X.M.P. ill try..

You finally drank some of the Perpetual Patience that I gave you in post #15.
That stuff ALWAYS works. :-)

NOTE: On the Boot tab > Setup Mode, you should be able to set the BIOS to always open in Advanced Mode.
Also on the Boot tab, you can disable the Boot Logo Display, (the ASUS logo).
IF, you do that, you'll always see this display for a few seconds, when you boot... which is a GOOD thing. :-)

Ofc, this is MY BIOS Splash screen. Yours will show your hardware.
00000 BIOS Splash Screen.png

On the Tools tab... you can Save your current BIOS settings to a Profile. I usually name the profile for the BIOS version I'm on.

After careful consideration, you have been awarded the... "Scroll of Technical Prowess".

Scroll of tech prowess.png

You can show this to your wife.
And you can tell her that flashing the BIOS is comparable to fighting a Grizzly Bear with a badminton racket.
It takes bravery, nerves of steel and skill, above and beyond. :D

It's likely that before, the USB had resistive contact. Often, you need to take out the USB stick and reinsert it with a firm straight push in.

IIRC, I had a Windows installer failure before because of this. One day years ago, I believe I also had an actual BSOD, because of that.

Yeah... it should be the F8 key.
Just spam it a few times at boot.

If your motherboard didn't come with one, you can get a motherboard speaker (buzzer) at Amazon.
When you hear the beep at boot, that let's you know when to hit the DEL or F8 key...

The speaker plugs in where all the front panel case connectors plug in.
I just let mine hang there...

image1.png

The computer won't recognize any key strokes, until you hear the beep.
The beep means the POST (Power On Self Test) is complete.

Your front panel connections should look like mine (check in your manual)...

FWIW I always update the BIOS on my Asus Z790 board using EZflash from within the BIOS with no problems. Remember to save your BIOS settings to a USB stick first so you can recover them to the new BIOS.
That is generally the preferred method however it appears in the OPs case here he was assembling new parts. The motherboard had a bios that did not work with the newer 14th gen CPU. So had to use the alternate method to update the bios.

I'm a computer enthusiast so have quite a few systems that I run. More like an advanced hobby.
On reading the thread, I'm not clear on what you did that allowed the flash to complete.

Please post a brief description of what it was. Thanks in advance.

Yes, sorry. It was because I was using a stick that was formatted to GPT and should have been MBR / FAT32. It worked perfect after that. :)
