Hello,
The company I work for provided me with a new laptop. When I first received it, there were no issues, and I was using it normally. However, recently I started experiencing sudden battery drops. For example, today the battery was at 80%, and it gradually dropped to 30%—not instantly, but faster than usual. I decided to let it drain completely instead of plugging it in.

Now, when I try to turn it on at around 7% battery, it suddenly shuts down. If I try to turn it on again while plugged in, it repeatedly turns off and on. I thought that leaving it charging for 2 hours and then pressing the power button might help, but the same on-and-off behavior continues.

In an attempt to troubleshoot, I entered the BIOS, which was still usable with the mouse. I noticed a “Firmware Update” option in the BIOS and clicked it. The update process started, but it did not appear to be a normal BIOS update, and I am not sure if it actually completed. Interestingly, after this, the battery suddenly showed 80%.

Could this be related to a BIOS update, or is it more likely a battery or power management issue? I am not sure why this is happening.

Wait and see if it gets up to 100%. It should not take long. It would help if you filled out your computer specs, under The My Computer Drop down.

The strange thing is, when I enter the BIOS and update, the battery charges, so it’s actually full; but it keeps shutting down and turning on as if the battery is dead. This happens occasionally when the battery completely runs out.

Take it to your IT dept of your company and have them look at it. They will replace the battery if needed or give you a loaner laptop until this laptop is fixed.

No, they not. Because my boss bought this laptop for me.

Suggest contacting ASUS Customer Support (below link). And in the future, charge the battery at 20%.
