Question
When it comes to speaker setups and audio output, which approach is generally considered best: analog, digital, or hybrid analog-digital?

Details
I am looking to understand the technical trade-offs, advantages, and disadvantages of each connection type (analog vs. digital vs. analog-digital) when choosing and configuring speakers.

I can't necessarily tell you which is the best, but I can tell you what I use. For speakers, I use a pair of BOSE 2.2 Direct/Reflect bookshelf speakers (8 Ohms), that I have had since the late 80's. I then drive them with a PYLE PDA69BU Stereo Amplifier. I also use a Marantz SR6010 DC Receiver/Amplifier that I purchased in Germany around 1981. But the Marantz system needs it's controls cleaned.

Both amplifiers are driven direct from my laptop, although the PYLE is Blue tooth capable and comes with a remote. I also have a Marantz turntable and a "audio technica AT-LP60X" turntable to rotate my vinyl collection.

All sound that you actually hear is analogue.
The quality of that sound depends on the DAC and the speakers and the way the source was actually created and mastered

It would take literally years to go through every possible permutation. While it is possible to be 100% analog from source to speaker, almost all systems now are a combination of analog and digital. Basically what you're asking for would take literally days to explain and is IMO better suited for a dedicated Hifi forum, of which there are several. In a nutshell buy quality mid range equipment and stay away from the boutique snake oil. There are no speakers on the planet worth $5000 that cannot be sonically duplicated at $1K. The same applies for amplifiers and DACs.

In my view, the quality and suitability of the audio equipment, along with properly implemented connections, matter considerably more than whether the signal is being carried in digital or analogue form.

Most modern audio systems are effectively hybrids anyway. Digital signals eventually need converting to analogue to drive conventional speakers or headphones.

Neither digital nor analogue connections are inherently superior in every situation. A well-designed DAC, amplifier and pair of speakers or headphones, connected using suitable cables, can produce excellent results.

I personally concentrate on the quality of the equipment, the listening environment and how well the components work together rather than worrying too much about whether a particular connection is digital or analogue.

Ultimately, the best arrangement depends on the equipment being used and what you're trying to achieve.
