Hey, @Edwin, do you buy any downloadable music? I'm starting to look into it as a way to reduce my physical collection footprint and found places like HDtracks and 7digital are good places to start. They also provide various file formats as well as hi-res files.

They have mp3 files, but I don't touch those. It's either flac or wav. The one thing to be aware of is if you go with hi-res files say 24/96 or 24/192, they are going to be big files. I bought a 24-bit / 96kHz album (Nina Simone Wild Is The Wind) with 11 tracks averaging 4.5 minutes and it came in at 1.26gig! Hiromi's Move CD (24-bit / 192kHz) came in at 2.4gig flac, and 4.46gig wav. So yeah, big files.

On your favorite artist, I don't have any Kate Bush, but I've heard of her.

That thing looks huge!!! And yeah, I'd image it being a bit overwhelming, and why it needs to be tuned in

Here's a picture of mine. Had to find an old image as Audioengine has revamped the design (while still naming it the S8), and thus no longer shows this old model. The sub is basically a cube of 11.25" (H) x 11.25'' (W) x 11.25" (D). The front is ported.

The three knobs (top to bottom) are Phase, Crossover, and Volume. I have the DAC going into the sub, and the sub outputting to the speakers. This provides level volume balancing. It is well suited for my Audioengine A5+powered speakers.

Might have been nice if it was down-firing and the controls were on the front.

So do I as I listen to anything from jazz to EDM. My suggestion would be to adjust the sub to your favorite opposite genres (for me Jazz and EDM) and set somewhere in the middle from there. Then use an EQ to adjust as needed. It's what I did.

Once I dialed in the sub, I left it alone. I then use my media player's (JRiver) 20-band EQ to adjust the bass as necessary, and then created user profiles for speakers (and headphones). No more fiddling with the sub :)

Just curious..., do you run Low Pass Filter, and, if so, what do you normally have it set at?

Well that's dumb, but that seems jive with what I noticed when I said it caused JRiver to issue a warning about my Teac ASIO driver. Appears it doesn't like other media apps running at the same time.

If you mean low pass on the sub, mine doesn't have one per se, but instead a "crossover" filter that goes from 50Hz to 130Hz.

I think I have mine set at 70Hz, but it's all by ear, so.... I would say just experiment with the filter. Adjust the volume first where the sub and speakers sound in harmony, then adjust the low pass to "tune" in the bass with the speakers.

BTW, I think you said you had the speakers running off the sub, but if not, you definitely want to do it that way as you can control the volume of both at the same time. It makes balancing a lot better and why I have the sub connected to the DAC, and speakers running off the sub.
