Client called this AM....she has the bit locker message wanting the key.....
We did not turn Bit locker on....we don't have the key.....this is from the Microsoft update
that allows bit locker to turn on all by itself....

This is the 2ed time one of my clients had this issue and I cannot fix it other
than reformatting the HD and reinstalling Win 11 from scratch.....and hope we have
a good recent backup....

Has anyone come with a way to fix this....
1. Can I boot up with a W11 bootable flash drive and do something at CMD...???
2. Can I boot up with a Linux flash drive and access something in the computer C:\ to turn off the bit locker...???
3. Can I install W11 over the current install and keep apps and data files...???...would BL prevent this...???

My understanding is Microsoft has published a correction to BL so this won't happen again.......but my client evidently
does not have this update......

HELP...

Thanks in advance...

By any chance, did your client sign up for O365 or OneDrive and Windows linked their MS account in the local user's profile?

She has Microsoft account to get 365 loaded up.....does not use One Drive.....but I do not have it turned off....
It appears that I'm SOL.....
I read somewhere that one of the things to do is check BIOS and make sure the bootable order has C:\ as first boot....
That might help prevent BL from taking over....

There's a chance the recovery key was synced without her knowledge. Ask your client to check this website.
Sign in to your account

You're not going to prevent this by changing boot order, it requires a reg change.
Code:
reg.exe add "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\BitLocker" /v "PreventDeviceEncryption" /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

I don't believe PreventDeviceEncryption is exposed from a GPO, which doesn't help any way if your users are on Home.

Are you running 24H2? (which I doubt, as I don't expect it to even be RTM'ed yet)
