Black screens due to MS bug

So it seems there is a bug in the Windows operating system that's known. At first I was told it was my PSU as it was not up to snuff for my system so I had it replaced this past week. Everything seemed smooth and normal again until this AM when I got another black screen. I've been working with Claude AI to pinpoint things. I am a semi retired hairdresser, I had a client this AM who works in IT and recently upgraded his system to Windows 11 Pro and sure enough he got a black screen and informed me it was a known bug. BUT according to Claude MS has issued the fixes but I guess the system is still recalibrating or something as this morning's black screen told me it was NOT fixed. Now Claude did mention that sometimes using the old Shift + Ctrl + Win + B will reset the video drivers and clear the memory and I may not need to reboot so I'll try that next. I do have a DDU app that I'm going to run in Safe Mode and hand install the NVIDIA Studio drives next to see if that improves my chances of not getting any more of these black screens.

Just thought I'd pop in, it's been a while, and write this out in case there is other advice you can offer to me, just keep it simple, I'm not a techy type of person.

Well, here's ten points for filling out your computer specs.







1. First, do Option #2, step #3 and onward, here...
2. This will block MS from including drivers in Windows Updates.
3. They'll still be listed as Optional Updates, if you ever need them.


1. Get this program, here: Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) | Wagnardsoft ...get the latest version, and save it to your desktop.
2. Get the Nvidia WHQL vid card driver here... https://www.guru3d.com/files/category/videocards-nvidia-geforce-windows-7-8-10/ ...save this to your desktop.
3. Unhook the internet completely.
4. Reboot into Safe Mode and run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) choose the "Highly Recommend Option", and just do what it tells you.
5. After it's done, reboot to normal mode, then just double click the Nvidia driver to install.

Rehook the internet.

My graphic and wireless drivers can't be updated. But I have Group Policy configured to prevent Windows from offering driver updates. What I have works.

Yea, a minute after I posted here I went for it. Got the whole thing done in no time. Safe Mode for DDU, booted out and back into Windows and installed the newest Studio NVIDIA driver. Fingers crossed that the black screens are gone.... we shall see.

As long as your PC is still supported, you get upgrades for your drivers Once its reaches of EOL, they freeze and become abandonware.

A lot of times... MS will install a graphics driver over top of the one you have. This has a tendency to corrupt the installed driver.
It's the reason for step one in the guide above.
