I have a Dell Inspiron 3670 and I found out by 'trial & error' that it will only boot from one particular USB port

I think the "One Time Boot" is specifically for quick flashing the BIOS from USB (it will look for the BIOS update file) and not necessarily booting up from USB.

I don't have a Dell/Alienware laptop, but I'm pretty confident that the BIOS update is just an option in what is otherwise a normal OTB menu.

Makes the most sense. If the system doesn't detect a device as bootable, it won't give you the option to boot from it.

I'm the paranoid git that removes all options for booting except my one boot drive, not even allowing boot from USB or any other external, nor PXE. If you don't know my password, you're not booting anything else without first flashing the UEFI fw. But I so rarely do it that I can afford to keep it disabled and only enable it when I need to.

However, it has the ability to flash directly from a USB port on the back with nothing but the 24 pin power connected to the motherboard. :lmao:

I’ve found that clicking the on-time boot key once isn’t enough, I have to rapidly click F7 to reach the temp boot menu. Yours is certainly F12.

Thanks I will check it out my usb turned out to be non bootable Duh! I have 2 dell/ alienware laptops and both use different keys to get to the OBM thanks for help

Thanks to All for all the help, especially with the correct F key and OTM.
All Sorted.... I made a bootable usb (that worked) with Macrium Reflect plugged it in and pressed f12 whist booting and went straight to the OTM

I really appreciate all the help as there was stuff I didn't know and stuff I stupidly over looked
