Solved Broken boot

It pains me to think about restoring a system image you know is corrupted to a brand new drive. Why take a chance since you've gone this far. Bite the bullet a little harder, clean install Windows and then copy only the user files....and only then if they are something you can't live without. If you put them on a flash drive instead of in your user folders, explorer will read directly from the flash drive and you won't have to worry about anything that might be corrupted being on your new drive.

I got your point. Thanks for advice. Just trying to make life easier. Can I loose something? In worst case scenario it will just fail to restore or restore it and I will not able to boot again. Do you think corrupted image will push brand new SSD to irreversible state ? It is "corrupted" only because there were sectors which was not readable, probably damaged, so they were not backed up correctly, or at least I think this is the case. It is no like there is a virus.
But yeah I understand... if it is not worth trying I will not do that, not a big deal.

Ordered new M.2 NVMe SSD. Will be there on Thursday I think.
Will try to restore full image then, hopefully this corrupted image will not damage new disk :D if this fail I will restore files from image manually and that's it. Have full backup on external drive. No one knows what is corrupted, but personal data looks okay and the rest is not important.
On the new drive I would do a Clean Install and recover only data.

It's time to learn how to use Macrium Reflect and how to make drive images.

I would restore it to some old disk and see if it can be made to work. If so, it can then be transferred to a new disk.

Honestly I have backup on external drive from this SSD. But it is old, I used to use Acronis for backup but it was long time ago.
Yes I learned something new. Macrium Reflect is very nice and intuitive tool, will use it from now on and create backups regularly.
and then something else will be broken and you will have to do clean install anyway
Well my plan would be to do full check after restore, like with sfc. Will see. There are many ifs, and maybe it wont work at all even if I want to.

I have free old 500GB 2.5" SATA HDD. Maybe I can try this game on this drive. But image is from NVMe SSD and this is SATA HDD. Will this work if we omit corrupted image?

you could try that thing with dism, point it at the restored partition using a .wim as the source

I was referring to this:

Of course it does not check personal files or other apps, but these I can easily replace / reinstall or just delete... it wont be a reason to do clean install. Reason might be due to corrupted windows files, which I can check with this system file check.

Yes that is worth a try.

The other thing is

Dism /Image: E:\offline /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source: F:\mount\windows

where E: is the restored partition and one of the images from install.wim has been mounted to f:\mount

You can run the dism command from another os, or presumably from booted winpe

The genral idea is that it detects what is broken on E: and replaces them with files from f:\mount\windows

I haven't played with it so I dont know which build number install.wim it should be.

you can get an iso containing install.wim from techbench TechBench by WZT (v4.1.1)

New drive arrived. Will replace it later, have a question in advance in case of restoring backup. I did backup of all partitions from old drive, so that means including all hidden partitions. In case of restoring do I need to restore only Windows partition C: or all of them ?

A clean install can be performed on the new drive creating four new default partitions:
EFI, Reserved, Windows, Recovery

Then the C: backup image can be restored to the Windows partition.

As @zbook says, a clean install will build the partitions correctly. When you do the restore from the Macrium backup, you drag each partition onto its corresponding partition that the installation built on the new hard drive.

So restoring of C: image finished 100% however pc is not booting and trying to repair windows, as expected as there were errors. Not sure if this can be fixed with windows usb installation media.

970 EVO has manufacuturing date 11.2018

//
managed to run dism command, but did not help, I guess I am not going to waste time trying to fix this.... will go with clean install and copy later what I need from the backupimage
