Building Over A "Old" Rig

hello all :)
first on here as i was a win10 user until i did somthing rather silly, went to try an dual boot 10 and 11 just to test 11 and accidentally wiped my 10 OS (oops) so installed 11 and got my hands on StartAllBack so im happy with 11 now :).
Moving on
Im fully aware my lovely new 7900xt is way too powerful for my systems setup but people keep telling me to go to a new platform, im not a intel person an for desktops im always team red, laptops im team blue, anyways what i want to do and what im advised is conflicting to i hope somebody can help me out a bit :).
i want to go to a b550 platform and the 5800x3d as i mainly game so the cache would be better, im in debt with the card so going for the 7000 3d chip an new ddr5 ram really is out of the window, i was wondering if this is a good path, i dont stream games or anything, i tend to play in the 1440p range (depending on the game atm, i have a horrible bottleneck on cyberpunk (expected). also had to remove a update recently as it slowed my NVME and my SSD to 90s HDD speeds.

I think the 5800X3d would be a great choice. Sadly it's the end of that platform, so you wouldn't any upgrade path. But like you said, if the budget doesn't allow it, don't spend the extra.

I'm an AMD fan too. I've gone back and forth, but if I had to buy anything right now, it would be a 7800x3d. It beats Intel, and consumes far less energy, and it's less expensive.

If you're trying to save money, compare the older 5800X to the 5800X3D. A quick look suggests that they may be close in performance. At Newegg, the 5800X is $243, while the 5800X3D is $335 (lowest).

Just make sure your BIOS version is 4801 or newer (latest is 5003), and you'll be OK with either.

I hope that the boost over the 1700X is appreciable for you.

"The 5800X3D has the same core architecture as the 5800X but it runs at 11% lower base and 4% lower boost clocks. The lower clocks are in exchange for an extra 64MB of cache (96MB up from 32MB) and around 40% more money. For most real-world tasks performance is comparable to the 5800X. Larger cache in x3D processors benefits only a small number of games, the rest may even suffer from lower frequencies. Not much difference either way. It also needs very fast RAM to have full effect. Unless you are an avid new-ish games player, price difference over 5700x is too great.
Considering your MB, I would suggest R7 5700x as an optimum, Runs considerably cooler and easier to manage. Also considering your new GPU, you are most probably going to play at high resolution and details and that's job for GPU.

If youre going for that cpu then itll do you grand, I would however get rid of that b550 and change to the x variant. Never cheap out on the mobo, Peach of a cpu deserves better than a b550 board. Otherwise i agree and understand where you're at man

You can "cheap out" on x570 MB too, here's a B550 MB better and more expensive than most x570.

Yeah ofc you can cheap out on anything, But ya get what im saying, A good mid range x570 board i'd prefer over any b550 board.

Oh, it doesn't matter what chipset, really... just get a good board.
A board that's been put together well.

A $100 board is gonna have problems... sooner or later.
A $300 board, if it has any problems, they will occur many, many years from the purchase date.

Same is true for just about anything.

Albeit not for gaming as the OP asks and also seems to be more for rendering and 3d modelling etc. To say that mobo is better than all mid range x570's for this purpose is madness.

So what's wrong with it ? VRM is just as good and it's rich with options.

Im not saying anything is wrong with, Or that its a bad board. Not at all. It looks pretty decent for sure, Actually more than id expect from a b550, But none the less personally still would go x570 man, Ofc depends on the price point and what you're looking for, But if gaming is the main point then x570, even an x570 gaming board would suit better if that is indeed the purpose moving forward. Im not saying never buy a b550 board, ofcourse they are still good and come with lots of features, Just thats a peach of a gaming cpu that deserves to be paired with an equal

Only "gaming" part on modern MBs is when SLI/Crossfire is enabled but that's out of general use, otherwise it's just gimmick word,

Hmm not entirely, I got my board specific for example due to OC and gaming specifically, Some come with different audio/Internet features to eliminate lag etc etc, Some gaming boards also help with oc's for sure. I've had gaming boards and normal boards and there is def a difference or i wouldn't have bothered anyway. But none the less, Im suggesting an x570 board, Doesnt need to be a gaming one ofc.

I've had good luck over the years with middle of the road mobo's. Typically, I have shopped in the $150 to $200 range and they have all worked great.

When I built my current desktop, a Ryzen 5900x, I went with a $300 board for the first time. Have an Asus Rog Strix x570-e Gaming board. It does have some nice features. My favorites are the plethora of 10Gbps USB ports, and these only really benefit me as I have external NVMe drives in 10Gbpps enclosures. I also wanted to make sure that I had a 10Gbps header for the front of my case (Fractal S2 Meshify), to run an external drives off that front USB-C port.

I currently have 3 Ryzen systems (son's, wife and mine), and we are all on X570 chipsets. Son has 3800x with Asus Tuf Gaming X570 Plus Wifi, and wife has 6600x with Asus Tuf Gaming X570-Pro plus wifi.

I've seen some of these new $400-$500+ boards, but I don't think I could justify that kind of expense.

I agree on high quality Power supplies. I never skimp here. The 3 systems above are all running Seasonic power supplies.

ASUS X570 HERO here, running a 3800X. I'm using a modest ThermalTake PSU of 750 Watts guaranteed for 7 years, which I found interesting as most power supplies in this class are warrantied for 5 years or less. The board sports a Sapphire Nitro+ Special Edition RX590 graphics card. I find this platform to be an easy over clocker and I'm pleased with it. I'm not overly concerned about my PSU because I'm running it on a sine wave UPS so all the power is already cleaned up and surge protected before it even reaches the PSU. It's been running without issue going on three years now and the price was very reasonable.
