Burn program on CD to USB stick

Having moved to a mini-computer with no optical drive, I need to determine a way to install an old copy of Quicken on a CD to a USB stick for installation. I created an .iso file from the CD and attempted to burn the file to a USB stick using Balena Etcher but it would not work.

I know there is a way to do this but I'm stumped at the moment. Any suggestions would help.

You could try mounting the iso, then run the setup program. You can also try using AnyBurn to burn an iso to a usb stick.

None of my old versions of Quicken were in an iso. In fact I have never seen a Quicken iso. Take the cd and a small flash drive to a computer with a dvd drive. Copy all the files on the dvd into a folder on the flash drive. Run setup.exe file to install.

Thank you Sir. I completely forgot about right clicking on the .iso file and mounting it. Was then able to run the install file perfectly! can't remember the last time I had a need for this.

First I got an error message when trying to create an .iso file. Sorry, I forgot what it was. Then when attempting to flash the .iso to the memory stick the process looked like it was going OK but after completion there was nothing on the stick. Who knows?? Anyway, as mentioned above, mounting the .iso file worked.

This is exactly how I installed the chipset drivers for an old motherboard that it's support page no longer provided.

I would create an ISO of the CD first, then use Rufus to create the bootable USB drive with the ISO contents.

Would a portable optical drive not help?

I have an ancient USB DVD/CD drive, and I see them for around $20. Problem solved. I actually have a 3.5" USB floppy drive in case the need ever hits, but I haven't used it in a long time.

I used to have a couple Windows XP computers with internal CD/DVD and floppy drives. Since I retired them I bought external drives to use with my Windows 11 laptop.

External CD/DVD drive: ASUS ZenDrive 8X DVDBurner (9/23)
External Floppy drive: SmartDisk USB 2.0 (9/23)

In a similar way you can use the external floppy drive to make images of floppy disks. I just installed DOS 6.22 and Windows for Workgroups 3.11 in a virtual machine using the floppy images for them. Note I had to first install DOS 6.22. In DOS I ran the setup for Windows 3.11. Also inside DOS I can install programs by mounting either floppy or CD images for them.

Host Operating System: Windows 11 Pro 25H2
Virtualization Software: VMware Workstation Pro v17.6.2
Guest Operating System: DOS 6.22 & Windows for Workgroups 3.11
