Buy a laptop with home and upgrade to pro?


If you don't have a Pro key, buy a laptop with Windows 11 Pro. Better hardware than one with Home, you get all the Pro features and it's cheaper than buying the Pro key separately. If you have a Pro key buy a laptop with Windows 11 Home and use the key to upgrade to Pro. Or buy a laptop without Windows and use the key to clean install Windows 11 Pro. If you can't buy a laptop without OS, buy one with Linux which should be cheaper than one with similar hardware running Windows 11 Home, then wipe the disk and install Windows 11 Pro. Linux sucks, no need to start this argument now, anyone having used both Linux and Windows can tell about the lack of compatibility, the shortage of applications compared to Windows and the steep learning curve. Want to tell more? I don't think so, you get the idea. If experienced users have difficulty with Linux, imagine a novice user like his or my mom.

Again, more theoretical suppositions from you with no basis on reality. There is absolutely no guarantee that if you purchase a computer with Windows 11 Pro instead of Home that it will have better hardware. I seriously wonder where do you get all this misinformation from? The hardware requirements for Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro are exactly the same! Most off the factory computers offer Windows 11 Pro as an option on the exact same hardware that they sell with Windows 10 Home installed by default.

Not misinformation, all you have to do is compare the hardware of the two. Except for very cheap models, Windows 11 Pro is usually installed on laptops with faster CPU or higher RAM, discreet graphics etc. Not all that such laptops with Home don't exist, but it is more likely they come with Pro than Home.

They tend to pre-install Pro on Business models. And those tend to have the higher spec'd hardware, but it's not always the case. But they usually have 16GB/32GB RAM vs 8GB that typically comes on consumer oriented models. I've currently cross shopping laptop. This is what I find anecdotally. It's really hard to find a midrange laptop with 16GB at a sub $1K price point and not be gaming or Business models only.
