Welcome to the forum. Change your lock screen back to windows spotlight and you should be able to.
Settings>personalization>lock screen

I have this same problem. I have changed the Lock Screen to Windows Spotlight as you suggest, but on doing so the five 'Recent images' on the Lock Screen tab disappear altogether from the tab, so they are not there to delete. Am I missing something?

5 leftover photos sounds like it may pertain to history. See if this helps. Reset Desktop Background Choose Your Picture History in Windows 10
