Hi,

I have tried hard to change text size in Win-11 using Accesibilty & slider & in Display using Scale & combinations of both.

But still it is too small & it doesn't much change Title Bar Font Or Menu bar Font or Icons Text etc etc.

I also see numerous posts everywhere on internet for the same problem & all answers are same as above.

So I was reading about Changing the Type of Fonts themselves e.g. from default Segoe UI to something like Verdana or Arial or Calibri etc. There it also gives you the choice of font size as large as you want just like in MS Word.

So my question is, is this the better solution ?

I don't have Windows -11 any more so I can't try it out myself but I am ordering a new system & wondering whether I shoud get it with Win-11 or Win-10 ?

Thank You

Winaero Tweaker has a lot of settings for the "look" of things in Windows.

Also... check the screenshots at the Winaero tweaker link above.

As for your Font question... I don't believe that will work as you expect.

Have you installed this app & if yes, in which Window Version? Win-11 ?
Also once installed, can you uninstall & go back to original Windows settings ?

Yes, I have it installed on both Win 10 and Win 11, and I love it.
Winaero allow you to export and import it's settings.
<-------- My Windows version is right there. :-)

So.... when you first install it... export the settings. These will be the "before" Winaero settings.
Now, if you decide to uninstall... just Import the "before" settings, and then you can uninstall.
And because you imported your "before" settings, before uninstalling,
you will have erased any changed you made with Winaero tweaker.

Winaero Tweaker is NOT a scary or dangerous program.
All it is, is a collection of Tweaks, that are made easy to turn ON or OFF.

Ofc, you should still use 3rd party backup software... EVERYONE should.

Here... have a look...

00000 Winaero Tweaker.png

And as for Win 10 or Win 11 on your new system. It doesn't really matter.
These days, you'll probably have more of a choice of system... if you go with Windows 11.

AND... Win 10 is only supported until 2025. If you buy a system with Win 11 you will KNOW that in the future...
it already has hardware, that is compatible with Win 11.

And Sean... there's lots of things about Win 11 that we don't like either. But with good backup software and a few handy tweaks, you can make Win 11 pretty much like Win 10.

And here's a few pics from MY computer. From Win 10 and Win 11.
I have two large storage drives, where I save... everything.
Then I have two identical Samsung 500GB SSDs
One SSD has Windows 10 and the other has Windows 11.

I only hook one or the other of the SSDs up, at any one time.
That way I could keep Win 10 and Win 11 isolated from each other.
This allows me to test a LOT of programs and tweaks on Win 10 or Win 11,
and to be sure that they aren't affecting each other.

I also try to make Win 11 as much like Win 10 as I can,
just for things like this post. :-)

They even have a Windows 12 site started but not yet public. :-)

Dear Ghot,

Thank you so much for such a detailed explanation. I really appreciate the time you have taken to go out of your way to help.

I have never used Win-10 OR Win-11.
Couple of months ago I had ordered a system with Win-11 & from day one, I had hardware issues so I returned it.

But for few days I had a chance to work with Win-11 & first thing I noticed was the extremely tiny fonts everywhere. When I tried to enlarge the text, the text got cut in half.

So I could not read the file names or folder names in Windows explorer or in any drives. I wasted lot of time but nothing helped.

Now I am ordering a new Workstation & I have a choice of either Win-10 Pro for Workstation with Win-11 licence OR Win-11 Pro for Workstation. The only reason I would choose Win-10 is if it does not have this Text size issue.

I work with Twelve 24 inch Monitors ( 1920 x 1200 ) & they work great with an age old Win-7. I have to sit 5 to 6 feet away to keep an eye on all of them. But no text size issue with Win-7.

You are right about choosing Win-11 with many problems rather than Win-10 because I don't know any of them. I was opting for Win-10 with Win-11 license but then I have to learn both.

But now with all screenshots of Winaero you posted it seems like my Text size issue should be solved.

Can you please try to make text as big as you can using Winaero in Win-11 & see if Text is not getting cut in half as shown in attachment ? Especially in Windows explorer & Folder names in each drives ?

Also if you open Word application are the Fonts as Tiny as in attachments ?

One more thing I noticed is that Win-11 Status bar has Different windows grouped. I like the Win-7 status bar where you can open more than one google chrome or folders windows as shown in attachment.

Finally is Winaero able to resolve these problems in Win-11 ?

I would really appreciate your help.

Thank You Ghot

I, too, use Winaerotweaker, but regarding font sizes I have had much better consistancy using Wintools System Font Changer. It is a portable app and is updated regularly. Current version here System Font Size Changer - Increase Text Size in Windows 10. It also lets you backup your settings and import them back in if needed.
Personally, I like the old version 1.3.0 much better than the new one as it is much more straightforward and works fine in 10 and 11. As far as I could find the old version can no longer be downloaded. I will be glad to share it if anyone wants it.

Hi glasscuter,
Thank you again. I read the known issues about Wintools on their Website & they are scary.
Did you experience any of them ?

Also can you please look at my attachments & tell me if Fonts get clipped like I have shown ?
And Fonts in MS Word Menu can be changed as in my attachment so they are larger.

Are these problems also there in Win-10 ? Does it have similar Text & Scale resizing? Because in the new system I am getiing I have to decide if I should get Win-10 OR Win-11 ?

Also any issues with Winaero ?

Yes, I would love to have their old version.

Thanks

Windows 10 and Windows 11 have what is called "scaling"
You can enlarge everything on the screen with that.
Here is the setting on Windows 11...

And here is with it set to 150%...

@sean I have had no problem with Wintools, but my situation is much different than yours as my experience is based on a basic setup of using one monitor and onboard graphics. With your setup I can not say how it will affect you.

When using Wintools, it takes some trial and error to get font sizes exactly to my liking. You have to be aware if scale changes, it affects all of these personalized font changes. I do not use different fonts for different portions of a window not do I change font spacing. I use strictly the system font. I think one can go too far in mixing fonts as the current Wintools Advanced System Font Changer does. Know if you change your system font, it will affect the appearance of font size slightly. Therefore, choose an appropriate scale and system font and stick with it. Themes also affect fonts so find a theme you like and stick to it as well.

I use a 27" monitor with a theme I created myself. For my eyes, 150% scale works best overall. Yet this size appears too large in my browsers. I had to adjust both Firefox and Edge zoom down to 90%.

I have noticed on occasion when my graphics driver updates that I have to import my changes back in. It has happened a time or two with a windows update as well.
Attached is a screenshot of my settings as well as portable Wintools 1.3.0. This version changes font size with a slider based on the scale you are using rather than the user selecting different point font sizes. Any version of Wintools works good though. It depends on what a user is accustomed to using.

Good point...,
For example, if I don't leave Menu at default, MS Word gets a huge Title Bar, looks stupid!
