Solved Can we install 23H2 instead of 24H2 on brand new DIY computer?

If there are at least Vista 64-bit drivers, try installing them as Administrator. They should work. NAPS2 is an alternative to Adobe Acrobat Pro to scan to PDF. If you have the full Adobe Acrobat Pro and proper scanner drivers, load it and go Create PDF -> From scanner. It does a much better job.

I wish now that I had known that, but as is so often the case, there are still many rave reviews. I was slowly coming to the conclusion that the author was beyond his capability: I would reply to his reply to me, where his reply was nothing more that a repeat of his poorly worded instructions. He never once wrote a single word about what my testing might be revealing; instead he would, each time state that I was sending large amounts of meaningless information. He once admitted that he had deleted my message because it made his eyes water.

It took me a while to comprehend this, until I realized that the thread consisted of a set of `he wrote/I wrote' exchanges. It was then that I comprehended that he is too stupid to realize that he was not stopping reading when he came to the end of my latest posting when he saw my name. Instead, he would then proceed to reread his own message, then mine, then his, etc.

I was amused when he marked my last post as spam; at least he had finally responded with something other than his constant reposts of his lousy instructions, and never with a reply that had a single iota of his reaction to that my testing had found.

(I forgot to add that we already have 1 Acer OEM Win11 Home in the house running 23H2. I don't know if that one might have some sort of file(s) in it that could be copied onto a USB and used to install on the new comp, so that we'd only have to put the new retail product key in? It's a retail copy that we want to buy this time.)

Go with 25H2 unless your PC doesn't support POPCNT/SSE.4.2. 23H2 is really meant for older PCs that don't support the chip instruction set.

Correction: It used to be that few models scan via network. Most new models do that, older would scan only via USB. If you buy a new model, most likely it scans both via USB and via network. If you buy an older refurbished model it might not.

Since new models can scan via network it might also be possible to scan from a mobile device, although this is of limited use since you can use the camera for that. Of course they can print from a mobile device directly without the need to transfer the document or photo to a computer.

Don't be gaslit by the Microsoft fanboys here. Most of the core features in 24H2 and 25H2 are broken or have some kind of issue. Most of the complaints I've heard regarding W11 are about applications suddenly not working, sudden network connectivity issues, and invasions of privacy. There's nothing wrong with installing an older version. I stuck with 22H2 for three years before upgrading to a LEGALLY modified version of 24H2. It does not break TOS to take things out of windows, and even if it did, so what? It's your hardware. Nobody has the right to take control of it from you and start changing or removing files it doesn't like without even bothering to ask.

Yes, I read in a Greek site that Microsoft admitted there are bugs in Windows 11 causing these issues and said they will address them in future updates. I also read that a recent update impairs performance in games, so nVidia issued a hotfix (emergency Beta version to fix game issues) driver to restore performance. For those that prefer standard drivers, the same hotfix will be included in the next regular nVidia drivers.

The circumstances in which the problems apply are, it says,

After provisioning a PC with a Windows 11, version 24H2 monthly cumulative update released on or after July 2025 (KB5062553), various apps such as StartMenuExperiencehost, Search, SystemSettings, Taskbar or Explorer might experience difficulties.

This will occur for the following:

• First time user logon after a cumulative update was applied.
• All user logons to a non-persistent OS installation such as a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) or equivalent as application packages must be installed each logon in such scenarios.
