Can't rename webp files on Android via File explorer

I normally drag and drop files on my phone to a Windows location, USB connection.
Sometimes webp filenames can be very long but can't be renamed with file explorer. No rename option in context menu, unlike every other file type.
Webp files in Windows preview, open and can be renamed fine.
A Windows issue or Android?

I can't rename webp files when placed on my Android and then opened in File Explorer, either.
But, a webp file placed on Windows somewhere, can be renamed.

Or a plugin or similar.

Yeah, but you'll still have to edit the item on your phone..., Windows will still treat the phone as an MTP device.

It's an old issue but never resolved.
It's really more of an issue with certain websites that insist on ridiculously long file names, which I don't like.
I have used X-plore's batch rename (truncate) option before and it looks like that's still the go-to solution.
Oh well.
