Can't run any .exe file

Updated windows 11 Pro 22H2 OS build 22621.608.
today downloaded three different programs to convert WMA to MP3 BUT all three will not open, even tried " As Admin"
What is going on!

So, no .exe files will open at all?
If that's true then you won't be able to open the Registry Editor to fix it.
If you can first verify that no exe files will open, then the way to fix it is with a .reg file.

OK can open previously downloaded file. I have downloaded 3 different WMA to MP3 converter's, yet none of them will open.

So, .exe file extensions are not broken on your computer by the sounds of it.
It happens sometimes, but it doesn't seem like that is your problem if you can open any .exe at all.

I'd be looking at what you are downloading.
What are the files that you're downloading?

By the way, there are a few great well known audio converters that work well. dBpoweramp is one. It's not free. There are also others.

EZ CD Audio Converter is another good audio converter.
I used it many years ago. Back then, it wasn't free. I'm still not totally sure if it is completely free.

There is a Microsoft Store version now. It might be easier to use.

The program Audacity can do it with the correct FFmpeg Library. It's all free.
Just install Audacity first, leave it closed and install the FFmepg v2.2.2 installer.

I just downloaded a .wma file, opened it in Audacity, and exported it as .mp3
Audacity can also "record" the audio in youtubes, edit music, do a bazillion things.

I have an older version, so the things in the RED box may not be in the same order (left to right), but these are the options (in the RED box), you should select. [Unless you have a really strange setup]

Audacity has been around forever... it just plain works.

Do you get an error message, does anything whatsover happen when you try to run them?

Shoot me a link to one of the apps that you tried and I can run in my VM with Win11 22H2 and see if it works for me.

Please note that anytime you "convert" a lossy format to another lossy format, there's going to be a bit of quality lost (especially if you are maintaining a similar file size). It tends to be much more noticeable for video than for audio, so your WMA to MP3 conversions may be acceptable. If not, the other option is to go back to the source (e.g. CD) and rip a new MP3 file or seek out the same file, already in MP3 format, online.

Having said that, another good option (if you haven't tried it already) is the music player foobar200. It can convert WMA to MP3.

As for your downloads not opening, please post more details. Where did you download from? What are trying to open? An exe installer? Do you get any error message? A screenshot of what you're trying to open and what happens will make it much easier to provide good help.

OK got there! A certain Co wants to control the world .Downloaded The EZ program from the supplier - could not run.
Finally after reinstalling the Microsoft Store, and downloading the same program ( from the same supplier), I was able to install it

Also just found in SETTINGS- Apps-Choose where to get apps- was set to "the Microsoft Store only", now changed to Anywhere.

It seems that you cannot run any .exe files. You didn't confirm above if this is the case.
But if your .exe file execution is broken, it needs to be fixed.

For a quick and easy test, can you download snapshot.exe from this page and see if it opens? It's a very small portable file. That's why I picked it.

If it doesn't open, then you have a problem with .exe files.
