Certain key combinations crash session and video driver

For instance, a key kombination Win+; crashes my session, throws me to the logon screen and when re-logging in, the video acceleration does not work and the video driver has exclamation sign on it in device manager.

Does anyone else experience similar troubles?

Check this Microsoft database to see if you are maybe pressing a reserved shortcut combo, there is one in particular that will stop then restart the video services/ driver for example.

That one is supposed to open the emoji panel.



Are you using anything that may have remaped key combinations?

If not, then try SFC /ScanNow in a command prompt (admin) to check for and fix possible system corruption. If it reports errors that it cannot fix then use DISM to repair the component store, then try SFC again.

I already did sfc /scannow two days ago.

Similar things (session crash+disabled video driver) I sometimes experiesnce either with no cause or when the memory is overloaded. I thought it was because of video driver crash due to memory shortage. But now the same happens after just a key combination.

@Bree yes, briefly the frame of the emoji panel appears before the crash. Also, sometimes a brief message box about stack overflow in an app, the same kind that you would see if you try to run an UWP app executable directly. But this happens quickly and then I see just the logon screen.

The Reliability Monitor will show details of the events and what it was that crashed.

The culprit executable is TextInputHost.exe. If it is removed or execution banned, there is no crash.
