Provided it's a regular app then it's quite easy - can be done in bog standard windows.

1) create a desktop short cut
2) properties
3) select any program with icons in it, including dll's etc and sekect the icon you use or select an appropriate icon image
(Although lang here is in Isl. the positions on the panel in Eng will be the same -- here's an example for firefox.

There's also a program where ypu can design icons yourself -- the last free version is still available icofx1.6.4

Note also if you want to make different icons and have desktop short cuts for a lot of system functions go into Windows Tools and from any of the icons there right mouse click, choose open file location, properties, create short cut, send to desktop and then change icon with procedure I've outlined.

Except (as you know) it isn't Firefox it's Foobar. Not all programs act the same, this one minimizes to the System Tray so most likely different behaviors.


Changing the .exe icon method does not work.

Changing it via the program as instructed in post #8 and signing in then out of Windows, does work.

You could use both methods if you want to see the same icon on the desktop as you do in the Taskbar.

It's a really ODD program

Regardless that I have changed both the System Tray icon & the Program Executable icon, the program on the taskbar when the program is open still shows the native icon.

Depends on the icon. I see my tree quite well and it's intended to be seen for operations. And the Alien Cat (all hail Alien Cat) is white on black so quite noticeable.

That icon in the taskbar open program. Is it showing that icon that in the system tray also?

My method DOES work and the changed icon appears on the taskbar when you run the program -- if you select the browse button you can add an icon from anywhere -- another program, a .dll file or an ICO file you've made yourself. BTW the icofx program can take any image say a .png and create an .ico file. Plenty of free icons out on the web you can use to test.

I tried it with foobar2000 -- took a png file with a guitar and sheet music as the icon symbol - used icofx to change to a .ico file (import / export) and it worked perfectly.

I'm on Linux currently but I can post the pic later.
