Solved Change Desktop location from OneDrive to normal location

W11, 24H2, Lenovo Thinkpad, just set it up this week.

I just now noticed that the location of my desktop is {USER}\OneDrive\Desktop. I had already deleted OneDrive from my Apps, but I guess that was the default when I booted/setup.

I would like to move it to {USER}\Desktop, and delete the OD folder. I created a new Desktop folder, put a text file in it, and it did NOT show up on the desktop. So it seems I need to do more to actually have Windows recognize a new Desktop folder.

Ideas? Reminder that I no longer have OneDrive as an active app.

Hey, I solved it!

I was using the Desktop from Quick Access to right click on. Instead, I used the lower part of File Explorer to get to it, and made sure it was visible on the left navigation side. Then "Location" was available. For some reason, the Properties dialog is different on the two, even though they are the same file.

Thanks everyone for links, feedback, and advice. I've been using Windows since the early days (eg, you would open Windows in a little DOS box), but as always, moving to a new version brings fresh... um, challenges. yeah, let's call them challenges. From W10 to W11 is a whole new set of those "challenges".

For the most part, I try not to "make it look like old windows". I embrace any new looks, rather than load programs that recreate "the old look & feel". But dang they make it hard sometimes. I am also a productivity & efficiency maven, and sometimes you wonder how they think certain changes are better. I programmed for almost forty years (big rigs, not PC), and the UI was as important as the underlying programming. Oh well...

I do wish the Start Menu was different. I find the W10 Start Menu to be slightly more organized. And customizable!

I will mark as SOLVED. I'm new to this forum, don't hesitate to educate me.
