Accessibility Change How Long Notifications Stay Open in Windows 11

Notifications_banner.webp

This tutorial will show you how to change how long to show notifications above the taskbar corner until dismissed for your account in Windows 11.

Notifications are alerts from apps, system, and other senders.

Windows 11 shows notification banners on the lock screen and at the lower-right corner of the screen above the taskbar on the main display.

A notification banner will stay open for only 5 seconds by default until automatically dismissed to the Notification Center.

3 In the right pane of the Accessibility key, double click/tap on the MessageDuration DWORD value to modify it. (see screenshot above)

4 Select (dot) Decimal, type in how many seconds (1 minute = 60 seconds) you want the show time to be, and click/tap on OK. (see screenshot below)

Entering anything lower then 5 seconds will still have a 5 second show time.

6 Either sign out and sign in or restart the computer to apply.

That's it,

I want to have the notification stay permanently until I acknowledge.
So in the registry method I tried setting the time to 7200 seconds (2 hours) and did re-login.
It shows only for 5 seconds anyway although the registry retained the 7200 value, awh.
Is the 5 minutes a hardcoded maximum? Any way around it??

Hello, and welcome to the forum. :alien:

I've only seen it use the default 5 seconds whenever an invalid value is used so far.

This is for 15 seconds :)

Also still baffling to me that they don't have this option in the notifications settings area, where it makes more sense to have it.
