I have my main 2560x1440 pixel display set to the default 100% default scaling for compatibility with some older programs. This results in the taskbar icons being rather small. Is there a way of increasing the size of taskbar icons without changing the display scaling from 100% ?

Starting with a recent version of 11 the registry fix for increasing taskbar icon size no longer works. Currently, the only way to make the taskbar icons larger is to either use a lower screen resolution or higher DPI scaling level.

You don't show what version of Windows you're on, but this works on regular channel, up to my current version.

Part B, here... fixes the Taskbar Size registry tweak that MS broke recently...

VIVETOOL, and how to use it...

By enabling or disabling certain 8 digit "ID numbers", you can turn Windows 11 features ON or OFF. In many cases, Vivetool is the "only" way to enable/disable certain features. Make sure you use 3rd party backup software, before you start "tweaking" Windows. Official tutorial...

0=small <----------mine is set here, cause I want the icons to be small.
1=medium
2=large



In March 2023, the monthly patch, broke the registry tweak for Taskbar icon size.
Part B, in the thread I linked above (post #3)... will fix what MS broke with the March update.

If you do go the ViveTool route... don't forget to make a fresh backup after you get it set the way you like. :-)






Btw... ViveTool will come in handy in the future as well. "ViveTool ID number" fixes are usually the first fixes that come out, when Microsoft takes away some tweak we've been using.
I already have a list of 4 or 5 "ViveTool ID numbers" for things MS took away. There will be more. LOL

That works but the notification area icons remain tiny. Is there a fix for those too?

That, I can't help with. I have all mine set to small.
I don't actually "look" to see what they are, I just memorize what the icons do.

For all the regular Taskbar icons I use... I changed the icons to something I can recognize, no matter what size they are.

99% of the Windows icons, are found in: shell32.dll

As you can see by the size of the bottom scroll bar... there's tons of them. :-)



The ones with RED dots, i got from the shell32.dll file, so I would remember what programs they were for, no matter how small.
The rest were either obvious, or so little used, that I can just hover over them to see what they are.
