Personalization Change Start Menu Size in Windows 11

This tutorial will show you how to change the size of the Start Menu for your account in Windows 11.

The Start menu in Windows 11 is comprised of three sections: Pinned, Recent, and All apps.

Starting with Windows 11 build 26100.9278 (24H2) and build 26200.9278 (25H2), you can now choose between a small and large Start menu, in addition to "Automatic (default)".

Option One

Change Start Menu Size in Settings


1 Open Settings (Win+I).

2 Click/tap on Personalization on the left side, and click/tap on Start on the right side. (see screenshot below)

3 Under Layout options, select Automatic (default), Small, or Large in the Start menu size drop menu for the size you want. (see screenshot below)

4 You can now close Settings if you like.




Option Two

Change Start Menu Size using REG file


1 Do step 2 (auto), step 3 (small), or step 4 (large) below for the size you want.

2 Change Start Menu Size to "Automatic"

This is the default setting.

5 Save the .reg file to your desktop.

6 If you have Smart App Control turned on, you will need to unblock the downloaded REG file.

7 Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

8 When prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

9 You can now delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.

Just FYI, you can add the menu size settings switch in Beta 26220.8544 with the vivetool codes and they work fine.

I was looking at that today, but I'm not an insider.
But the site I posted lists up to date the vivetool codes (Starts mid page.)
ViveTool codes that you can use to enable hidden and experimental features on Windows 11.
I obviously I still don't know what I am talking about but I want to.

Yeah, you would have to have the current Beta or Experimental (25H2) Insider build installed for the ID code to work with it.

Vivetool generally is safe to use though some of the features it enables may not always be the most stable. If you enable a buggy one just disable it again. For that reason it's good to keep a list or database of which ones you use. And of course as mentioned certain codes will only work on certain builds though some work on all. My biggest gripe is finding one for a feature I really like and then MS pulls the feature or sets new codes. 🤣
