What program are you Pasting the screenshot into? I frequently use Paint and it has 4 choices plus an Other when using Save as and Save has several choices with the Save as type.

Thant I can do.
But when use use the shortcut Windows Key + PrintScreen, it automatically saves a snapshot of the screen in Screenshots folder with PNG Extension.

Mine only does that after I open Snipping Tool and choose to save by clicking the floppy disk icon but even then I can make the choice for .jpg or a couple others. Looking in the Snipping Tool I don't find a setting for changing that.

PrintScreen is PNG only, because JPEG compression can cause image blurring. Some users like AutoHotkey to run a script which saves JPEG format (look on Google).

:think: PrintScreen defaults to bitmap in the clipboard. It is the simplest image format there is.
