I like the Classic notepad, but the Dark mode support on the UWP notepad makes me like it more. but I use Notepad++ for its batch file support.

Classic Notepad. It is small, fast and does its job very well.

Same goes for Classic MSPaint.

These new versions are slower and while looking a bit better, are not as intuitive to use.

Yeah - why on earth did those numpties in MS development team decide we needed these changing at all?

I knew MS Paint inside out, and now I have to remember poxy symbols for cut and paste etc. I agree with you - just not intuitive.

I really do not give a poop for round corners or dark mode for these basic utilities.

I hear people saying it is less strain on their eyes but how often do people use notepad for more than a few minutes now and then?

notepad is just like a post it note for me. It should be simple and not do anything complicated.

For everything else, there is visual studio code.

UWP apps are Store apps. It's the new version of Notepad which will be installed by the Store, without asking if you have your Store is set to 'Update apps automatically'.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

NotePad++ is still out there and it's great
