As many of you use Notepad++, can anyone tell me if character count is possible, please?
I have the latest version installed but can't find any option to display character count.

Another suggestion - although it's not as simple as notepad ++ but actually very good is to install the old wordpad.

Runs perfectly - I'm on W11 Enterprise latest 25H2 DEV version - no probs - and it's a lot quicker and less cumbersome than using the full WORD app if you have Ms Office or Ms Office/365 and want a bit more than just a bog standard plain text document.

Not sure - but easy way is to simply copy the text into Google docs (free) and check wordcount dropdown. Otherwise use a free word counter app or I think the new bog standard W11 notepad in DEV and CANARY 25H2 channels has it.

It isn't word counting that I need. That is already included in Notepad++ and many others. I need character counting because many online forms limit you as to how many characters you may submit and spaces are also included in the character count.

Yes - just highlight the text and it will display the character count at the bottom of the screen. It looks like it counts spaces as a character as well though - not sure if that is customisable or not.

NFOPad also has an option to show Selection Length on its status bar so, it uses the same principle as Notepad++ as far as this particular feature is concerned but NFOPad has been in existence for so long now, it really is oldschool—as am I. In NFOPad, what gets shown on the status bar vs not can be customized easily. The option to show Selection Length on the status bar is under View > Status Bar Items. So, its ability to be customized is NOT hidden under a stone someplace in Rome. So, for simple, basic type editor stuff that doesn't go too far beyond what Windows built-in Notepad app also lets you achieve, NFOPad is still king of the hill.

Edge is the most used browser—to download Chrome. Similarly, Notepad++ is the most used text editor—to fool others into believing that all its users must know something about coding due to the syntax highlighting feature that it has. lol
