On a flash drive my dentist provided CT software to view recorded results.

The flash drive has folders ending with:

data
os_x.app
autorun.inf
viewer_win.exe

The total size of the 4 folders was approximately 2 GB.

What are methods to maintain the identical folder / file structure and upload to the cloud.

Initial attempts changed folders to files and displayed an extremely long upload time period.

Hmm, Since I suppose this is simply data, no boot information, I would think you could simply drop all files and folders into a ZIP file, then upload that one ZIP file. However, depending upon the speed of you Internet upload speed, it may take a while, especially if your upload speeds are a lot slower than download speeds.

So far I'd created a new folder named cbct then opened file explorer to view E: then performed a drag and drop.

Looking for more efficient methods.

Currently it displays "uploading 570 items"

There was no approximate time and no file count size progress displayed.


How do you know whether it will or won't display the same folder /file structure?

Not much more that I can offer. There should be zero difference between copying the data locally or to the cloud, except that compression might benefit you because there will be less data to copy over a slower link.

Maybe someone else has better ideas than I do :-)

Archiving files to a zip is my go to. Even though most files are directly downloadable from a link (PDF’s, MS Document files, Video Files etc) I still zip them before uploading.

You could also convert the USB content to an ISO?

I'd never uploaded 2 GB at one time.

The first time it seemed like it was creating a large number of individual files instead of maintaining the folder structure.


There is a right click option for each folder to
compress and email
send to compressed zip folder
copy
etc.



The app properties displayed 279 files, 57 folders
data displayed 570 files, 48 folders

It's a very slow upload speed.

Which right click zip method/option do you prefer.
Then what do you see in google cloud or one drive cloud?
Do you leave it as a zip or un zip?

(I'll check later in the day)

I have only ever used WinRAR. If used you can right click on the folder you created and in the context menu should be a WinRAR section, in that section it should show a whole lot of options including “Add To Archive”
If you choose this option, WinRAR will open and you can select what type (RAR or Zip) and also select or instruct what size the split file sizes should be if you choose to split the archive.

In regards to what to do with the archive once uploaded, what are your intentions for uploading it?
