Cloudflare Global Outage 18 Nov 25


Besides Cloudflare problems, today I noticed a problem with access to the revocation list of SSL certificates. Without access, attempt to open some Internet resources results in HTTP error 12057. But apparently when I write this post, the problem is already fixed.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

It was an internal Cloudfare issue, should be resolved by now.

...your browser is trying to reach challenges.cloudflare.com, but Cloudflare can’t respond properly. The website then assumes the script has been blocked by you, even though the real issue is on Cloudflare’s side. As a result, you see the misleading message telling you to “unblock” the domain.

Several sites that were affected are now working, I hadn't noticed the thread started yesterday and the problem has been on and off since then.

Internet Websites - relying on Cloudflare's DNS seem to work now - but there's still issues with apps and logging-in to their servers (which also rely on Cloudflare) - unless using Cloudflare as DNS (which... is rather laggy/slow - compared to Quad9 - for example). :|

More info. Apparently a self-inflicted wound, according to Cloudfare: “To be clear, there is no evidence that this was the result of an attack or caused by malicious activity."

Find Cloudflare’s statement below, as received by the Capacity team:

“Many of Cloudflare’s services experienced a significant outage today beginning around 11:20 UTC. It was fully resolved at 14:30 UTC. The root cause of the outage was a configuration file that is automatically generated to manage threat traffic.

“The file grew beyond an expected size of entries and triggered a crash in the software system that handles traffic for a number of Cloudflare’s services.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.

Only if it's a company which holds some level of monopoly - and Cloudflare - is a Behemoth in the DNS service industry - taking account the number of clients it holds under the grasp of its DNS service. Tho, wouldn't say it's a house of cards - since it only affected the Cloudflare clientele (and indirectly - the users of their clientele's service), currently the largest - but even so - the last recorded market-share is around 15.1% folowed by.... Tho, that list is rather ambigious - as in: Akamai Group might cover only 0.3% for the DNS services (plural and difrent infrastracture - older/complex way of doing things - compared to Cloudflare) it provides - but it's actually a far bigger/older player than Cloudflare (a decade older too) - and its main clients are Corporate - while Clouflare is for everyone (thus, the higher marketshare).

all i did was change my DNS to 9.9.9.9 for a few hours then re-enabled Clouldflare-WARP
when the UK servers came back online but this seems to be a self-inflicted wound by Cloudflare.
