C'mon Ms Tech -- this is 100% "BOW LOCKS" on update

Hi folks

Why does update stay for ages on 0%. Is it because Ms still haven't unlike those earlier mathematicians discovered the power of ZERO or don't they understand their own OS.

It's not like installing a brand new system -- all the old software and drivers are presumably still in place.

Why does this stuff on some systems take forever on an "UP DATE" -- not a new clean install.

30 mins to get past this on a QUAD processor (not a 4 core but 4 different physical CPU's !!!! !!!!!!!!! Inexcusable . Linux complete system upgrade took all of 37 secs!!!!



Don't get me wrong - I still have appreciation of the difficulty Windows has at having to supply a working OS to possibly the most varied hardware infrastructure on the planet -- -- New installs I can understand the difficulty -- but on Upgrades ????.

I always believed that it was checking which specific updates a PC needs from the full update so it will stay at 0 until this is done.

Is it really at 0 or is it just not showing the progress? I've noticed that a lot of times the update will jump from 0 to a much higher percentage.

There are also lot of support files held in the WinSxS folder that need updating, often needing a complete refresh of the contents and most of these are compressed, so part of the update process is de compressing, updating, compressing, which some CPUs handle poorly, and also is affected by disk and RAM speed. This probably adds a lot of overhead on top of everything else going on.
Not saying it is a good system, just the way it works.
