Apps Completely Disable and Remove Copilot in Windows 11

This tutorial will show you how to completely disable the Windows Copilot preview feature and remove Copilot from the taskbar, Windows Search, and Microsoft Edge for all users in Windows 11 and Windows 10.

Copilot in Windows provides centralized generative AI assistance to your users right from the Windows desktop. Copilot in Windows appears as a side bar docked on the Windows desktop and is designed to help users get things done in Windows. Copilot in Windows can perform common tasks in Windows like changing Windows settings, which makes it different from the browser-based Copilot in Edge. However, both user experiences, Copilot in Windows and Copilot in Edge, can share the same underlying chat provider platform.

This tutorial will no longer work to disable/remove Copilot.

Starting with Windows 11 build 22631.3810 and Windows 10 build 19045.4593 (RP and Beta) Microsoft is evolving the Copilot** experience on Windows as an app that will be pinned to the taskbar. This enables users to get the benefits of a traditional app experience, including the ability to resize, move, and snap the window.

MS don't care they will still install copilot and all other irrelevant new features with the AI/ inclusive dog whistle.

MS is that scared nobody will find them in the MS store lol

Sadly, I'm compelled to agree. Howbeit there are "work arounds" which I am not at liberty to discuss here.

Why are so many afraid of/even angry about, Copilot? I have used it for some (admittedly) simple searches/tasks and it has been useful. Basically it summarized a lot of information that I would have to have made multiple internet searches to find.

Not sure how you come up with that opinion but you're welcome to it

It has nothing to do with hate or fear but MS must have some fear people are to stupid to find copilot at the MS store plus a host of other apps they install and prevent normal means of removal.

I sure didn't ask for it and a host of other apps to be installed frankly and maybe MS should start asking instead of adding apps that some people wouldn't be interested in using.
You sure won't see any unused MS app in cleanup recommendations list and there should be a lot in my use case lol

If Copilot works for those who need it, fine. Just like One Drive and all these other aps it belongs in the Windows Store and does not need to be installed on any PC unless it is specifically requested. It should not be sent as an update or included as an update for those who don't use it. MS is notorious for railroading these things into our PCs even when we don't want them or need them and that can certainly lead to bigger problems. This is hardly ethical.

I am a father of five providing PCs, laptops, and tablets for all my family, most of which I have modified, rebuilt, or simply built from scratch. I do not own a cell phone, never have, never will.

I used to tell folks that Windows 7 was the last real OS ever made by Microsoft. Sure, you often needed to install your own drivers for the hardware you added to your platform, but at least you didn't risk MS giving you the wrong driver and it held the hardware manufacturer somewhat more accountable for the hardware they produced. Win 8 was the harbinger of what was to follow and 8.1 gave us more of the same but admittedly it was an improvement. Nonetheless these were tablet OS that resulted in the tools being dumped from the trunk only to be replaced with bloatware that nobody wanted. Windows 10 brought us more bloatware, nagware, and adware (not to mention spyware). It was so bad on release that one third of it fell under the scalpel from those who knew what they were dealing with. Win7 was the last OS that was scrutinized by beta testers before it was released. After that they just fired all their beta testers and let the public pay them to be the guinea pigs, hence the Windows 8 disaster.

The system recovery partition for Windows 11 requires half a GB where 200 MB was adequate in most cases. I'm thinking perhaps this CoPilot might have something to do with it. That last update is a real doozy and I have a PC that can't eat it because the partition is too small. I tried using power shell to fix it like a good little script kiddie but to no avail. I'll see if I expand that partition with my MiniTool Partition Wizard if the update will take just to get an update I probably don't even need. Wouldn't surprise me if soon we'll have to dedicate 1GB partitions for Windows RE.

Here it worked perfectly, it also solved the problem of Copilit appearing when swiping on the notebook's touchpad from the right corner to the left, this was what bothered me the most.
