Computer Wakes from Sleep Mode Almost Immediately

This issue has been happening to two of my motherboards... an Asus and Gigabyte Z890 chipset. The Gigabyte motherboard has been replaced with the Asus. The Asus board was working perfectly until yesterday when it started to "wake up" almost immediately from sleep mode. Both motherboards have clean install of Windows 11 23H2 then updated to 24H2. I haven't done an install from 24H2 directly because it causes an issue with safe mode log in ability. I only noticed the "Windows.old" folder deleted itself yesterday and now the computer waking from sleep mode started to happen. PS powercfg commands reveal nothing that's waking the computer.
Ideas are welcome... Gigabyte support told me this is a Windows issue, not hardware.

Yes. Only started yesterday. I reset the BIOS to default settings just in case there's something there causing the wake from sleep when I don't want it to.

I never use Sleep or Hibernate, so I'm not very good with this.

You might want to check the settings in...
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings\Change advanced power settings


Make sure nothing in there is set to wake your computer.

There are a bunch of things that could be waking the computer, top suspect in your case if you're not touching the keyboard or mouse is probably the network connection.

to see which devices wake up the computer.

I did the event viewer bit and the culprit waking the computer up is "unknown"

I saw an error message in event viewer claiming something about the Realtek Ethernet controller… that’s when the issues started. I did a network reset and so far sleep mode seems to be working correctly. Hopefully it will stay that way now.

I had one computer waking up until I turned off the "allow network to wake computer", so that's certainly a possibility.

Instead of disabling Wake Timers completely, it's worth trying "Important Wake Timers Only".

Unfortunately, I was never able to get the problem to stop until I replaced my Razor mouse and keyboard.
I believe I found the reasons for these phantom “unknown” computer wake-ups.

I can’t prove my issue was caused by the problem I describe below, but it’s my best guess.

Razor products have a built in necessity to install Synapse software. Even if you say “no” it will attempt to download every time you turn your computer on… either from cold boot or return from S3 or S4.

I replaced the mouse and keyboard with ASUS hardware and the problem is now absolutely gone…
