Solved Create Passkeys from MS authenticator app?

Is this feature also available for consumer Microsoft accounts or just enterprise accounts?

According to Copilot, the answer is yes but I don't see the option to create passkeys from within the Authenticator.

This really doesn't answer my question. I need the same option to save passkey to my Microsoft Authenticator app as shown in the posted video. Do not want any alternatives.

Or is this only available for Entra ID accounts?

Read the thread. It will be mandatory soon as MS is doing away with SMS.

I read the thread and couldn't see how it answered the question either.

OP is using Microsoft Authenticator on an Android phone.

The two links you've provided so far are about using different apps on Windows.

Your missing my point. I do not want other authenticator app.

I just need the option to show to create passkeys the same way as shown in this image from the Microsoft authenticator app.

If not possible using a MS personal account, then so be it.

My suspicion is that this is for only Entra ID accounts and not personal accounts.

Maybe the Copilot link that I posted above is false or misleading...

thats only for managed accounts. not going to get it to show for personal accounts.

Thank you. That's all I needed to know. But when will it be available for personal accounts? Will Microsoft be planning the same feature for personal accounts anytime soon?

i'd say probably never but knowing microsoft, they'll introduce that feature by the time it's obsolete

Going by what MS are doing with their enterprise platforms and SKUs in the authentication space (it is significant) I doubt they're going to wait till doomsday to make similar changes in consumer versions of windows.

Maybe it's not exactly about the subject, but anyway. I don't have a passkey in Microsoft sense like Windows Hello, PIN etc. I have an MS account for Outlook mail and other MS services (on PC, I use the local account) with "sign-in and verification options":

Password (previously it often failed, but today works again);
Additional non-Microsoft email, which can be used to receive a digital code;
Authenticator app, in my case Google Authenticator for Android.

When Outlook.com was refusing my password because of long-lasting bug, the only way to get to it was a code sent to external email address. Authenticator, even though it is listed and works well, was never asked as a sign-in option. Hence, it cannot play a role of passkey. I think It can be used only for 2-step authentication as a secondary code.

SMS has been terminated already since you can't add a new mobile number for 2FA

However..

There's a problem with saving or creating a passkey within the MS Authenticator as posted in my video because what happens when a user loses the phone?

Since its a Device Bound passkey, there is no option to recover it when the phone is broken, lost or stolen.

This is why organizations need to invest on Yubikeys as a fail safe passkey option. At least 2 of them.

Well yeah, you shouldn't have one authentication method for your account. That's not specific to passkeys. Entra ID users should be able to get in via another MFA method or a TAP.
