Solved Crucial P310 NVMe not recognised at install start.

Installed is Micron 500 GB nvme,I removed it and fitted a 2TB Crucial P310 NVMe.

Using Ventoy I can start and run Debian 13 Live, also Debian 13, which I have installed.

Trying the W11 International x64 ISO I downloaded will not find/recognise the Crucial drive, nor Tiny11 either (currently running Tiny11 on the Micron drive).
So I installed Debian and downloaded the Crucial driver file, and copied it to the USB with Ventoy on.

Absolutely stumped, so I have refitted the Micron device.

NB: This Asus 17 only has the single storage option, so cloning is currently unavailable.

Suggestions please.

Main reason it doesn't find the drive during installation is that, on BIOS, the drive mode is set as RAID and not AHCI. This is common on Dell computers. In this case you must load the IRST drivers during installation. or set drive mode to AHCI.
Did you boot the Win 11 USB installation drive as UEFI and not Legacy?

If your boot mode is set to RAID or VMD is enabled in bios, for drives to be recognized by the windows installer, you can do one of two things, change disk mode to AHCI or install RAID drivers at the "Load Driver" step of the install. See step 10 here.. Clean Install Windows 11

Personally, I always take this opportunity to change disk mode to AHCI.

Please open disk management. There you will see your new drive as raw. Because it is raw and it is not yet a Volume, you will not see it during installation of Windows.

Right-click your drive and click New Simple Volume.. Click Next.. Make disk GPT disk for UEFI installation. Do not format and do not assign a drive letter. Click Next until you reach the end.

I bought a new NVMe M.2 drive (Corsair MP600 Core XT 1 TB) and same happened to me.

Thanks for the replies.

After faffing about, I am currently watching it doing a Cloud Recovery.

So I guess it will be a Factory Fresh ASUS 17 X1704VA, with 24 Gig of RAM and W11 Home on a 2 TB NVMe and an Intel Inside i5-1335u CPU.

@suatcini54 When adding an additional drive to a working system that is correct. But this user is doing a clean install and the drive was not detected. That's an entirely different scenario. He/she would have run into the exact same thing when trying to clean install to the OLD drive.
If one's system is AHCI, the install uses the MS default storage controller driver which is included on the install disk. If one's system is set to RAID, the installer will stop in it's tracks until the user provides the appropriate Intel/AMD storage controller driver.

Not when doing a clean install. The Windows installer initializes and partitions the drive for you.

Hi

I short circuited the problem by doing the cloud recovery option from ASUS.

It worked. Wiped out my Debian 13 Install, but HeyHo.

I set a local account, shrunk the 1.8 TB C: drive to a more modest 330 GB ISH.

Did a little housekeeping, and rebooted to install Linux Mint in Safe Mode, 80 and 250 GB ISH for / and /home.

Thank you all for the input on a Sunday Evening.

I need to mark this as SOLVED.
(Reading all the potential pitfalls with BIOS options you all pointed out, I was glad that I found the recovery that must have rectified everything. Thanks again for the Interest and Input).
