CyberPower UPS Battery+Surge Outlets Suddenly Not Working?

I have this Cyberpower 1500 VA UPS that I bought few years ago. I rarely ever used it but usually had it plugged into the wall outlet but did not turn it on. I was using a surge protector to connect my laptop, monitors and everything else etc.

Recently I connected everything to this UPS. The issue however is I notice the battery is very bad because the moment I unplug the UPS from the wall outlet, the minutes drain very fast so basically within 2 minutes or so, the UPS would shut down. Thus the battery is several years old and would need replacement is what I hear is the issue right? Now I didn't buy a new replacement battery because I was told you could use it as a surge protector. There are 12 outlets. 6 on the left is battery+surge and 6 on the right is surge. Just recently overnight, I notice my modem/router had no power. I then unplugged it from UPS and plugged it back in and still no power. I then plugged it to a surge protector and it worked and noticed none of the 6 battery+surge outlets on the UPS work. The 6 surge outlets on the right side of the UPS however does seem to work.

Can someone tell me the reason for this? Is it because my ups battery now is basically done as oppose to very low? Did my ups battery malfunction overnight? The thing is on the back of the UPS, I see the word Wiring Fault next to this red circle. It looks like that red circle looks red so does that have anything to do with it? I have the UPS on the floor and sometimes I do bump into it sometimes but could it be loose or anyone have a clue what is the cause of it? The thing is if there is an issue, why is it the other 6 surge outlets on the right seem to work?

Do I need to buy a replacement battery for the UPS to fix this? I am using it as a surge protector but now because of this I don't have enough outlets. Someone mention it could be a blown fuse? If so, how would I find out if that is the reason? So that doesn't affect the other 6 surge outlets on the right? Again this happened overnight when I noticed my modem/router wouldn't power on in any of those outlets. Now I don't want to buy a new UPS battery for it only to find out that it might not be a battery issue? I did read on cyberpower website that if your battery is malfunction or issues, then the surge+battery outlets won't work? So the surge outlets do work?

I would say it's because the battery is dead. If the circuit breaker was tripped, none of the outlets would work. Without a battery to test with, I don't know how you can find out for sure.

I have the same UPS and mine started to do exactly as yours. New batteries solved the problem. These are what I purchased.

Is there a way to check if it is a bad fuse? Do you open the ups the same way whether to check that or to replace the ups battery? There is only 1 way to open the UPS right?

Also I notice the word Wiring Fault and the thing next to it is very red. So is that a big issue? I googled it and that means it has to do with the ups not being grounded or something? I do know for a fact that my building is very old and it isn't grounded for surge protection if that is the right term?

So right now I can only use the 6 surge outlets on the right side of the UPS. The 6 battery+surge outlets do not work. But I can still use it the way it is right now with the 6 surge outlets right? The thing is my ups battery was very bad but I didn't bother to replace it because I thought might as well just use it as a surge protector. I was told by someone even if the battery is bad, you can use it as surge protector. But I can only do this on the surge outlets if my battery went bad? So now my battery is no good compared to before this event where the battery is very low?

I do not know how to open the ups. But i read online it is simple. Are you saying you need to be careful if you replace the ups battery yourself? I check that i can buy the ups battery replacement for this online.

Are there risk here if you do the battery replacement wrong? So can't you watch a video on youtube on someone replacing the battery and you can just do that or you need to go to a computer repair shop and have them do it to be on the safe side?

Okay so someone told me they have a similar cyberpower ups with 1500va but it is a different one compared to mine I believe. They said this ups does not have a fuse and thus this isn't a fuse blown issue. Can anyone else confirm this? So this is good or not?

The person tells me the wiring fault red button being on means it isn't grounded. The thing is I am not sure if my ups wiring fault red button was on before this or not. Is there anyway to find out? Do I unplug everything from my ups. Then unplug it from wall outlet. Then plug it again to wall outlet and see if that wiring fault red button is on or not? Then plug it into another wall outlet to see? What about going to a neighbor apartment and connecting the ups to their outlet or that wouldn't matter because it is same building so should be same? Possibly the wires are tangled up or something?

Can someone explain the no ground thing? So that has to do with the construction of the building right? I know my building is very old and am almost positive nothing is grounded here. So does that mean any ups i buy or surge protector i buy won't have any ground? I believe almost all buildings here are like this though. So what should i do here first before I go and buy 2 of those batteries. They certainly are not cheap since you have to buy 2 of them.

I'm not in the US right now. But if I can buy something like that, it can test it?

Anyone here had their ups battery+surge outlets not work and if so, was it the battery? However, why is the wiring fault red? Is it possible it wasn't like this previously or it probably was?

I think you have a bricked UPS to be honest. It should not give you a wiring fault like that, dead batteries or not. When my batteries died, I did not get a wiring fault. The unit just wouldn't provide backup power any more and beeped every five seconds.

My suggestion is to replace the UPS.

I have a Furman surge and noise protector power strip I use with my musical equipment. It has a "Protection" light and if I lift the AC power ground connection the Protection light goes out. Thus suggesting no surge protection without an AC power ground.

The thing is i know this UPS needs battery replacement and it seems I have to buy 2 batteries correct for this? I read reviews people said you need 2 batteries for it. This is the correct battery for it but i need 2 right?

https://www.amazon.com.mx/CyberPower-RB1290-Cartucho-remplazo-batería/dp/B009ACPC7K/ref=sr_1_1?__mk_es_MX=ÅMÅŽÕÑ&crid=1WQT9V19HKZRE&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.ytKrLPHxGc5_gKJpnrBDy7eNeluyL89MciwPSMlXAAbG5eIAS_K9zeBNsobw3QWUW1w_s5FB8mC9ewz-oQadt0FopDrQWzTKJ9hoEN-YYbs7ivQxQNuAxsMqwf-ZqTfiJf-Ml9-ZpgL8jVprKm0iIb3rltMby_FaT-gVNDwY6jN_ZbmkXD0psotzKo34vus9B48OBhWzJzInePMumiRAXRZJ1JwJOXyt0xnyqXEOextkR1fdlpad9Oh9OccvCnw6tY9Ntd7T62X2JF6Kvo_ATX7b-n-I6dIgnyM3ko9_lpk.K9a81H10cLwUJBPBcODHKznLFAj9gFS2x3Id3u1puiw&dib_tag=se&keywords=cyberpower+ups+battery&qid=1718951695&sprefix=cyberpower+ups+battery%2Caps%2C108&sr=8-1&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.242f5c11-6cfd-40d6-91f6-be3d1974080c

This seems ridiculous because buying 2 of these cost like 60-80% of buying a completely new same UPS.

However, if you buy it off the US website, it's less than half the price here.

Amazon.com

But would this below work as well? Seems to be the same specs as above but half the price?

Amazon.com

The thing is I have no clue about opening a UPS. I am concerned I will make a mistake and break something. But is this an easy process to replace the battery? The other thing is, would there be any dangers if you do it wrong like you would cause the battery to release a chemical smell and it's dangerous if you don't do the procedure correct? There is 1 or 2 computer shops where I'm located that most likely can replace the battery without an issue. Should I first bring the UPS there just for them to examine that my UPS still works even though there is that red light Wiring Fault and this is just a battery issue? If so, how much money should one pay for them to replace the UPS battery for you if you provide them with the batteries if you buy it yourself?

Does it make sense to just buy a new UPS then based on this? If replacing the UPS batteries which requires buying 2 batteries cost half the price of a new UPS, then it's worth it but once it gets to around 60-80% of a new UPS, it might be better buying a new UPS? The issue is UPS is very expensive if I buy it where I'm located though and electronics in general.

The fact that you had to even ask tells me you don't have the skills to do a battery swap yourself, shorting out a high capacity battery could well cause it to explode and cover you in hot acid. As for how much you'd pay a professional, that's entirely up to them not opinions from here and if you provide own parts expect the answer "NO" or "You're not getting a warranty"

I have mostly cyberpower ups's. It always seems a hassle to replace batteries. Unplug all devices, I used to take the ups to the garage work bench, perhaps your wife will allow you to do it on the kitchen table :O and remove the battery access cover, slide the batteries out, disconnect and reverse. So what I did was, [my example below requiring 2 batteries at a time] was just extend the wiring from inside about 2 feet of heavy gauge wire, put on connectors and built a container and connected the 2 batteries in series. This way is much easier to change, measure the voltage on them, keep clients plugged in etc. I used the same 12 v battery but bought some with higher amp hour rating. Some ups's only require 1 battery. Only do this if you are comfortable with this kind of work. YMMV

Didn't see it mentioned but a UPS can have one socket that controls others, turning off a device plugged into that port can turn off the others.
