delete sulfurous scanners

While messing around with print drivers (DO NOT INSTALL HP SMART ! It's only purpose to to sell you ink while limiting other functionality !), I now have multiple versions of the same scanner. How do I delete them (can not be done via this window).

Hi,
One possibiliy is to search for the Device Manager in Control Panel and delete the entries from there.
Another possibility is to download the Driver Store Explorer (very nice tool) and delete from there.

I don't recognize that window.

You may be able to remove the spurious (probably not sulfurous) entries from the bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners settings.

I was there, but missed it. Scanners are under Imaging Device (not Scanners).

Settings > Apps > Installed apps > find all instances of your HP scanner or printer 3 dots uninstall.
Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > click on spurious instances > Remove.
Settings > Devices > Scroll down to > More devices and printer settings Right click on spurious devices > Remove.

You may find it easier to get rid of the whole lot including the working instance and just install once.

No idea whether this is a scanner or AIO.

I have a Canon AIO, easy to install multiple instances, so rather than have the working one with (2) or whatever appended to the name, start again.

I like HP devices, but the first thing I do is remove (Revo) and/or disable all HP proprietary software. It's either malicious (in my eyes) or saps up resources running in the background, simply doing functions already built into Windows

Also, HP has the propensity to reset the Services options, so I periodically have to run a basic script to shutdown and disable their services

(Ditto most other brand name devices)

You might also look in Control Panel

Control Panel > Device Manager > View (menu) > Show hidden devices

Then expand each category and remove (right click > Uninstall device) the desired HP devices (particularly the faded entries revealed by Show hidden devices) . In some cases it will be a simple delete, others may offer/prompt to remove software ... do this option.

CONCUR !

I have setup probably a half dozen HP laptops over the past 5+ years. In every case, I download the (then) current version of Windows from Microsoft, completely re-initialize the drive (wiping out the recovery partition) and install from scratch !

I just started using Revo and I LIKE IT ! Especially now that I have figured out how to use Hunter Mode ! I does a good job of cleaning up the "leftovers".

Also only one other "cleaner" I trust and that's Geek Uninstaller. It only has a portable version available
