You are confusing SupportAssist, which is free, with the Dell Support service plan, which is effectively a 'warranty' covering the hardware. One is not dependent on the other, but if you want to extend the hardware cover it can be done - at a price. I could, if I wished, extend mine....

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

I searched the 6 Dell OEM utilities (so many? I didn't know there were so many!) and my present impression is that Dell does not quite have their act together in this regard. If a utility does not quite do the job then make a quickie plugin kind of thinking. That makes for a lot of overlap, but I myself would not uninstall any of them, YMMV

You are being offered an 'extended warranty' for that $75, it has nothing to do with Support Assist which is free for perpetuity.....

My newest Dell has just reached the end of the Dell Support Services that came with it from new. Amongst other things, it would have cover replacing any hardware, such as the motherboard, should that have died on me. I'm not inclined to renew/extend it. The hardware seems bullet-proof so far, and as for software support - well I think I can manage that well enough on my own ;)

Very true, my lady. But it has it’s advantages, I’ve watched them jump on someones laptop and cure its ailments. For people who have trouble even finding the start menu, and are totally tech-phobic and are constantly doing crazy things to their laptop, it’s a good plan.

I was responding more to the yearly cost of $75.00; yep, I would count on the gurus here to help before I'd pay that much for support I may not ever need.

That's not to say I'd never need the support, but then I'm not one who has trouble even finding the start menu, nor am I totally tech-phobic and constantly doing crazy things to my laptop. It just wouldn't be a good plan for me. Simply because I know where to get the help.

In fact, one of my students had real problems with her computer; however, her husband is a real fan of insurance. They took it back to the store where she bought it, and the first "fix" was a failure, so had to take it right back. It now works like it should. I should say the computer was out of warranty, so the insurance kicked in.

I would never of thought that you personally would have to pay $75 for assistance.
But take my mother for instance, she couldn't get to this forum without me reminding her or guiding her how to open Edge to get here. When she got here, she wouldn't know what to ask because she wouldn't know what was wrong.
As I am not always available for her, I pay for her support assist. They are very caring there. They know her age because it's in her profile.
My dear old mum has problems remembering things.
