For some reason I can no longer access a folder on my USB HDD. It say's I don't have permission. When I click on Security it say,s I need Read Permission to view the Properties of this object. Click on Advanced to continue. I think that what ever caused this is the same thing that caused the drive in the computer to die. It hasn't had any access to the internet in a very long time so I doubt it was caused by virus. I only use the computer and drive to stream my content to my TVs and other devices. Is there an easy way to get the permission I need? This is how far I got trying to get permission with File Explorer and I have no clue of what I need to do.

There is no problem that cannot be solved by the proper application of C-4.

Or, in other words, bring it here and I'll fix it for you.

Thanks for the replies. I've been playing around in File Explorer and found that there is no user assigned to the folders. I found that I can enter my username as the owner and can access the folders. @OAT, Before I go any farther I'll check out the link. What I was thinking that what happened to the system drive was caused by a power surge. With me losing ownership of all of my folders on the USB drive I have no idea of what happened. If I had been surfing the net or installing any downloaded programs I would suspect I loaded a virus. The computer was sitting idle and connected to my home network but not to the internet.

I used the .reg file. It was so much easier and faster then what I was doing.

@FreeBooter, I was almost doing what was in the video except that I was entering my username to each and every folder. I would love to know what happened to my mini pc to cause me all this trouble.

When HDD is damaged it can cause those errors. A sudden power loss could have triggered it.
I would definitely check SMART and bad sectors. CrystalDiskInfo and Macrorit Partition Expert.

I will test the drive before I add any more files to it. Right now I'm still setting up the mini pc back to the way I want it. I do have a backup of all the files on other HDDs. They're just not organized.

That is a very good how-to video. I had no clue of what I was supposed to do or even if I could take ownership over the folders. I just took a chance and entered my username. It was working but it would have taken me hours to finish.
