Mine stopped working and said I need internet.
Another source said one needs office 365 and I have office home and student 2019.
Another source said MS has an issue and is working on it.

Do you have the real reason dictation stopped?

@SSamuriaI am using Google to dictate and copy to the doc I am sending, thank you for reminding me.
@cereberus= Unless you have used Windows mail with MS dictation it is hard to explain details.
I was dictating hen suddenly I got an error message saying I need internet. I see this in feedback. I bought MS Office Home and Student but I read where you need 365 to be able to dictate. Windows in my opinion is trying to get everyone to subscribe to 365.
I could be wrong.
I am only an average guy and don't want to argue. I just wanted what I thought was mine.

I frequently use dictation, WinKey + H, so I just tried it and I also get an error dialog box that I'm not connected to the Internet. That message is in error as I definitely am connected to the Internet. If I weren't, I couldn't be interacting with this forum. Just clicked on Amazon.com and it came up. Microsoft is having a problem.

I read you need 365 to get dictation but I do not know. II thought that was the reason bout I am comforted to know it is not on my end. Windows has an issue a day. I am going to look at a MacBook. My daughter showed me some features; one is that it updates itself.

I am a Microsoft 365 subscriber. I don't find anywhere in Microsoft documentation that MS 365 is a requirement for dictation.

Checked the Microsoft Community. They are saying there that Microsoft 365 is a requirement to use dictation. That surprises me as I would think that dictation would sometimes be a required use for some disabilities.

I bought MS Office Home and Student 2019 and it does not allow for dictation. I did get a message from MS that they are working to correct this no dictation issue but I am not optimistic so I use Google's dictation then copy and paste.

Sudden issue with Voice Typing I've posted all the information I've been able to find in that thread.

I dual boot with Windows 11 RTM and Insider Beta; Voice typing doesn't work in RTM, but does work in Insider Beta.

Unfortunately the Dictation feature is only available with Office subscriptions - not available in any Office retail license. As per a tutorial written by @Brink, Dictation has been updated and renamed Voice Typing. That said, I opened Microsoft 365 Word, clicked on dictation, and it worked for me. voice typing still does not work in RTM but does work insider beta.

Moot=Is this only for those with 365? I just had an hour session with M.S. who said no and I should be able to dictate with Outlook.com and Word but it is a Windows issue. They are mailing me tomorrow with a resolve.
I am not a pessimist but I do think it is a 365 issue as MS seems to be doing all it can to have users subscribe to 365. I have office Home and Student 2019 as that is all I need.

Thanks, @Maranna. I hadn't taken into consideration that Microsoft 365 or office 365 would be required for voice typing.

However, I do have a subscription to Microsoft 365 Family so voice typing should work for me. It doesn't and Microsoft has said that they are aware of this ongoing issue.

At this point there is nothing we can do but wait for a solution here. It sucks that we aren't able to use something available in the software provided by Microsoft.
