Could be, but how many people do you know who absolutely cannot use a keyboard adequately?

When the COVID Pandemic first started, our Windows and genealogy classes didn't miss a beat. We used Skype to keep our classes going. We used both texting and video meetings. I know first hand how long it takes a non typist to make a post. Even folks who have had a computer for years don't type very fast.

That's not a put down; just pointing out facts. I would guess that 75% of folks who work outside the home are not using computers in their jobs.

The point is that voice typing should get more attention from Microsoft.

Thank goodness. I didn't get back to mine until just a bit ago. Unexpected phone call that lasted a lot longer than I wanted it to.

There is a Windows speech recognition and there is a Win Key+H dictation.
Could we have used former [trained] without the latter?

I don't know the answer to that question because I never used speech recognition back that far when it was added to Vista.

The fact that we have Speech recognition, dictation, and voice typing can be confusing. I've checked all three versions on the Internet and it's more confusing than ever, so don't bother trying to figure it out.

From everything I have seen, I believe that we started out with speech recognition in Windows Vista. From there it got a little better with the release of dictation, which doesn't work all that well because it will only work in a word processor more or less. It may work in an e-mail but I'm not sure.

From the tutorial by @Brink, we're told that dictation has been upgraded to voice typing in windows 11.

Bottom line is that Voice Typing is much better than Speech Recognition or Dictation.

This quote answers it for me. They are separate entities.
