Yesterday "WinKey + H" worked everywhere for me and today it doesn't work anywhere.
What hath Microsoft wrought?

It hasn't worked for me since August 31st in the RTM version. I have to go into the insider preview beta version in order to use voice typing.

The line below was dictated "WinKey+H" in Windows 11 22621 RP 22H2:
Winky plus H.
(nearly right)

Dictated "WinKey+H" in Windows 10 19044 RTM 21H2 on same machine (dual boot)
when page
(hopeless!)

Dictated "WinKey+H" in Windows 11 22000 RTM 21H2 (on another machine)
win key plus H
great!!!

no 365 account used here
(just love the way this site saves an uncompleted post so I can swap to another machine to finish it

)

are you asking me?

No, never had one. I don't even have MS Office installed on any of three machines I tried this on, and the latest Office I have on any other mchine is Office 2007 and that's not on subscription. I don't actually use dictation normally, this was my first time testing it.

WinKey+H works for me in both RTM 22000 and RP 22621. This may be a regional thing, I'm in the UK and you're in the US.

Oh, wait.... let me just check I was really running 22000 on that 3rd machine (it's also a dual boot)......

Okay I'm back and I'm dictating this from 22000. My mistake, I'd inadvertently booted this machine with its RP OS the first time!

WinKey + H works on this partition . . . 22H2 22622.290, however doesn't work on my second partition . . . RTM 22000.219 ( think that'd 22H2 also).

I'm going to boot into 22000.219 to be sure it's 22H2.

No, 22000.219 should be 21H2. This is mine that I'm dictating from now.
It's 22000. 856, which is the current latest patch Tuesday cumulative update for the RTM. Yours looks older...

I blew it big time! I'm really on 21H2 22000.918. Sheesh!

So, if you're on 22000.856 and WinKey + H works for you, then it must be the 22000.918 update that broke it? Hmmmm, I wonder if I should I drop back to 22000.856?

It's really a pain in the tookus to keep going back and forth just to get WinKey + H to work. But then, so is typing with a substitute finger!

Did I read and understand correctly that you have no version of Microsoft Office installed and Voice Typing works without it?

There's always the Office app that's part of every Windows 11 install, but no - none that I've installed myself. I'm not even using an MS account, just a local account. Can't use the Office app without signing into an MS account.

This 22000 RTM machine is my System One below. The only Office I have installed on this machine is Office 2010 Starter. I'm a serial updater and never clean install if I can avoid it. Starter 2010 was an OEM install back long, long ago from the OEM Windows 7 that was the original OS on my previous 'main machine'. That got the free upgrade to 10 in 2015, then I migrated it to System One to get its W10 upgraded to W11 on a supported device.

Sorry for confusion. I have 21H2 22000.918 with MS Office Home and Student 20019.
About 2 weeks ago after a year or so of using WinKey +H it stopped and I posted the error.
Since then I have been told it will be fixed the 20th of Sept, it is only for those with 365 and then again some have it and some don't.
Does anyone have the real skinny here about Win key and H for voice to text typing?

Very strange @Bree!

Last Thursday in class, we tested each student's machine (all are updated to 22000.918) and not one of them was able to activate voice typing. Every one of them gave the message "something went wrong”. Of course, this was with a Microsoft account.

I bombed out on a local account. Something really did "went wrong"! :ffs:

At this point, don't have a clue as to what might be causing this issue. I do know the exact day voice typing failed; it was August 31st. And I was on 22,000.918. I am running the current subscription (beta) version of Microsoft 365 Family.

Did Microsoft actually give you the solid date of October 20 for the issue to be solved or did you pick it up in a post in this thread? Microsoft usually will not give a concrete date on anything.

I don't think any of us have the straight skinny on anything concerned with voice typing.

However, I do know know that dictation still works in Microsoft Word, but so far as I can tell, will not work in anything else.

It's not unknown for issues like this to be regional. The fact that you're US and I'm UK may be relevant.

I proved to myself that Microsoft Office 365 is not necessary for voice typing. I have a computer that does not have any version of office installed and Voice typing works on that computer.

Hopefully this is not a repeat of something I've already said.
