Did Windows 11 create the need to retire my 24-year-old HP Laserjet 6P Printer?

I have an older Brother Laser printer running on Windows 10, NO WIN 11 Driver. Do not feel like installing Win 11 to find if the Win 10 driver will work. Even though I have disk images of all four of my machines.

With rare exceptions any Vista 64-bit or newer printer driver should work in Windows 11. Just make sure you install with right-clicking on Setup and selecting Run as Administrator. In some cases you may also have to change the Compatibility mode to the respective version, such as Vista or Windows 7, but not always necessary.

The only other thing I can think of is getting drivers from the Microsoft Update catalog. Microsoft Update Catalog Don't get the IA64 ones, unless you're running an old Intel Itanium based system.:)

The download will be a CAB file, which will require a little extra work to install. Install CAB file in Windows 10

I have no personal experience with this. My own printers are from Brother. I like them because of their long driver support.

I'm using Epson Eco-Tank Printer. No longer have to buy cartridges and the ink lasts forever.

They are good. If you forget to print at least once a month and the ink in the printhead dries you don't have to throw it away and replace it. Just clean the printheads. Also the ink is like 15-20 standard ink cartridges. Yes it is rather expensive to buy but then you can forget about it unless you print tens of pages every day.

After 10 years, my Windows 7 laptop screen died and I had to replace it with a new Dell Inspiron laptop running Windows 11 Pro. It appeared that neither Microsoft nor HP had a driver that worked for my old reliable HP Laserjet 4 Plus printer. After many failed attempts to use HP and Microsoft universal drivers, I found the post from SIW2 from Nov 25, 2021 with a link to a driver pack
that successfully let me install my printer and it is working fine.
After downloading https://dl.driverpack.io/driverpack...UNIVERSAL/HP-FORCED-Allx64--UNIVERSAL-drp.zip (link copied from SIW2's post), I extracted all the files in the zipped folder.
Then, I told the printer install program that the printer wasn't listed and selected the option of setting up the printer manually.
The printer was networked so I created a port with its IP address.
When it came time to install the driver, I told the installer that I had the disk and then browsed to the directory containing the
unzipped files.
I selected the file prnhp001.inf (it is down in ../HP/FORCED/ALLx64/-UNIVERSAL and the install program popped up with a list
of HP printers.
After several trials with different drivers, the one that worked for me was HP LaserJet 4/4M Plus PS 600.
