Disable profile icon on edge

Hi, is it possible to disable the icon at the top of the edge browser?
I mean this one

I haven't found a way to do it. The only alternative I've found is click on the profile, then settings then profile pic again and use an avatar. Not ideal I know.

I tried to change the profile picture but it doesn't change it always remains the empty icon. I also waited more than 24 hours

@antspants is a tutorial only to move the profile picture not to hide it

Is it only in edge you don’t want to see it? Can you replace it with a transparent image I wonder?

Not sure, I believe they are stored in \AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\AccountPicture

Try going to Windows settings -Accounts - your info - choose a file - browse file then choose picture. In the same place select Accounts Manage my accounts and check if changed there by clicking on your profile pic. Then just wait again.

Just changed my pic after last post and it's already changed in Edge.

But I have a local account on windows, I didn't log in anymore because every day it asked me to log in even if the account was connected. and then I decided to switch to the local account

Ah ok. I use MS account to log in. Don't know about local, sorry.

I can’t tell you for sure that this will work but depending on how important this is to you, it may be worth a try.
And for full disclosure, I have never once had a local account so I am working on my own logic here, which could be very flawed.

Attached below is a 486x486 transparent user profile image in a zip file. I honestly can’t tell you how this will look as I haven’t tried it.

(I believe the Microsoft user pic is located in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\User Account Pictures)

After running Brinks tutorial above:

Close down all instances of the browser and check in Task Manager (Ctrl-Shift-Escape) that msedge.exe is no longer running.
Copy this (just click on it and it will copy to your clipboard) %localappdata%\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default
Press Windows key + R to open a run box, press Ctrl-V to paste what you copied into the box and press Enter. This should open the folder containing all the user data for your default profile.
Look for the file called Edge Profile Picture.png and delete it if it exists. Close File Explorer when you're finished.
Maybe sign out or reboot, re-launch Edge. “Hopefully” this should cause the browser to fetch a fresh, current copy of the profile picture that you changed in the tutorial.

It might be a stretch but worth a shot.
I can’t (don’t really want to) test all this as I use a Microsoft account and love me in a clown suit...

Guys after more than three days the avatar has changed, maybe it took longer because not only logged in with the microsoft account directly on Windows, I don't know and a hypothesis.

yes actually I really wanted to remove it from there because it wouldn't let me change the profile picture, and I didn't like the empty image
I had waited even more than 24 hours but it wouldn't change, today I opened edge and the profile picture was set.

Although I don't understand why Microsoft doesn't give the possibility to choose whether to see that little circle at the top or not.

if you want it gone, just change it to a transparent png or one of a solid color that matches the theme you have on edge.. but that will reflect on all apps that your account is singed in with (store, user profile, edge, etc). change it on https://account.microsoft.com/ and give it up to 48hrs to reflect.

you can NOT remove it from edge though.

Actually I intend to remove it but seeing that there are practically no tested guides for this thing I gave up, I wouldn't want to put my hands on it just to try to remove that profile icon, honestly I thought that it would be enough to deactivate some option.
Before opening the request for help I had waited more than 24 hours for the profile photo to update and so it didn't happen there were times more than 36 hours. In the description it said 24 hours and then seeing that 24 hours had already passed and asked for help to remove but I didn't think it was so difficult to remove it honestly.
Anyway I really appreciate your help antspants of course I repeat I thought it was an easy thing to deactivate and not do tests to see if it could be deactivated.

@dacrone it could be a good thing, but then when Windows starts I would see a blank profile photo since I very often put the computer in lock screen and I like to see the background with the profile photo. thanks anyway for the advice.

Because they want you logged in in order to track you and sell ads to you, that's why. And even when you aren't there logged in, it's there to remind you to log in. That's why there's no "hide button" option.

Not to mention those annoying pop-ups in Edge wanting you to turn things on.
