Solved Do I need to defrag the ssds

The last time I went here was months ago(maybe a year)and I reinstall windows few days ago
I am not sure if the scheduled optimization will ever run because the laptop is either off or not in idle

C and D is the internal ssd(m.2)and the E is an external ssd

When I enable Advanced View,another drive appears that needs optimization

If you have TRIM enabled (it is by default), you don't have to defrag SSD drives. When Windows indicates your SSD needs optimization, it is usually requesting a TRIM command, not the traditional defrag. If you tell it to optimize, it's smart enough to do the right thing.

Before the reinstall,the last time I check it was not saying that it needs optimization

About every 30 days it will say it needs Optimized.
You don't have to do it every 30 days. I usually do it at 60 or 90 days.

    Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
When you re-install Windows, the new instance has no prior knowledge of any optimizations that happened before. History is kept by Windows, and not by the drive itself. A new Windows will start the schedule cycle as "Never run."

Accessing files on a HDD involves a spinning disk and head movements that can take a noticeable amount of time. That is minimized by defragging the drive. An SSD has no moving parts so nothing is gained by defragging them. An SSD's life is determined by total writes to it. Defragging it needlessly writes to it diminishing its life a small amount.

Windows does not defrag a SSD but just performs trim or retrim.

Actually it will defrag a SSD once a month if Volume Shadow Copy (system restore) is enabled but that is by design as otherwise you would have slow volsnap copy on write performance if the SSD is fragmented.

But normally Windows storage optimizer only performs trim/retrim on a SSD.
