I have just got my laptop back form the techies in town after I thought that the wifi card had gone bust. It had not the problem was due to an Asus update for that card - I had no idea of this sort of thing happening thinking that any driver or firmware for the internal components were updated mainly through the Windows update feature.
Now I have the machine back I have found listed in the installed apps an app related to a site called eyacker.com an apparently it is an app that scans for spam and scams and is sited in Reykjavik Iceland.
My query is are there any members who know of this app/web site and is this software safe as I do not remember downloading and installing this app??

My suggestion is to uninstall that app if you have not installed it also it looks unwanted app as it advertise a website you don't know.

Given the OPs initial comment reflects a degree of inexperience, there can be no certainty that the (offending) software wasn't downloaded and installed by the OP, unknowingly/inadvertently/accidentally, maybe with some other software for example.

Posting a comment about the tech service would be totally inappropriate.

Just call them and ask if they installed it. If they didn’t, then you did accidentally. Simple, most likely.
Maybe they used it as a test app for checking the Wifi. Could be many reasons why or why not.

If you ever need to take your laptop into a Tech service, the best practice is to make a backup image of your OS, then wipe your OS (Reset) or install a temp version of Windows on it. That’s all nothing else, no software etc.

When you get it back after asking what they found, reload your backup image.
Even better, first do a repair in-place upgrade.

Doing an in-place upgrade or a temp install of Windows could also determine if you have a software or hardware issue.
Never give a phone or PC to a tech service you are not familiar with (or even if you are) when it has personal content on it.

This may be inconvenient, but the best practice to protect yourself and your data/files.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.
Sorry for late reply but I do trust the tech shop I go to however my machine was changed a little in that my taskbar for example was different and my default browser icon was missing from it. As I mentioned before they stopped the Asus update service as they said that it was the cause of the problem with the wifi card and probably was a driver issue that was not detected and caused the card to cease functioning.
However I will uninstall that app as I don't think it will be of any use to me and if they did install it it may have been unintentional as I can see no advantage to the tech shop to have it on my machine - as far as I know.
Have also down a thorough scan of the machine and there were no detections found and the ESET scans I find really quite thorough.
Anyway thanks to all of you who replied I do appreciate it as always.

Now mate sorry but I have been computing and building my own desktops etc plus I have been on these Windows forums for many years and although I may not have the experience and know how of a lot of the other members I can work my way through problems it was just this one that threw me as I didn't know about any update issues other than those from the Windows update service that often updates drivers as my printer driver/s for example.

@ICIT2LOL find out the installation date before removing it and take a picture of that information. that will tell you who installed it (as in you or them).

Libel cases (as this would be) in Australia range from street arguments to Facebook comments to public comments, to online reviews. If anything is deemed detrimental to a company or person without due process and proof, a Libel case can ensue and most likely be won.
However the plaintiff would need to prove damage.

Why not just remove it and get on with life. I might install software on a machine i'm repairing for a specific reason and i might forget to remove it, big deal!
