This tutorial will show you how to downgrade from Windows 11 Pro, Education, or Enterprise to Windows 11 Home without losing anything.

You may find yourself needing or wanting to downgrade from the Windows 11 Pro, Education, or Enterprise edition to the Windows 11 Home edition.

A direct downgrade from Windows 11 Pro, Education, or Enterprise to Windows 11 Home is not supported, and would normally require a clean install of Windows 11 Home resulting in the loss of all your data.

Using a workaround in this tutorial, you can downgrade your device from Windows 11 Pro, Windows 11 Education, or Windows 11 Enterprise to the Windows 11 Home edition without data loss.

You must be signed in as an administrator to downgrade to the Windows 11 Home edition.

Downgrading to Windows 11 Home will result in the loss of features only available in the Windows 11 Pro, Windows 11 Education, or Windows 11 Enterprise editions.

Here's How:

1 Click/tap on the Download button below to download the REG file below.

Downgrade_to_Windows11-Home.reg

(contents of REG file for reference)
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion]
"CompositionEditionID"="Core"
"EditionID"="Core"
"ProductName"="Windows 10 Home"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion]
"CompositionEditionID"="Core"
"EditionID"="Core"
"ProductName"="Windows 10 Home"

2 Save the .reg file to your desktop.

3 If you have Smart App Control turned on, you will need to unblock the downloaded REG file.

4 Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

5 When prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

6 You can now delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.

7 Perform a repair install of Windows 11 (click on link) with a Windows 11 ISO or USB installation media from within Windows 11 and not at boot.

You can use the Media Creation Tool with Use the recommended options for this PC checked to get an ISO for this.

You will need at least 20 GB of free space on the Windows drive to perform an in-place upgrade (aka: repair install).

This will take some time to finish.

8 When the repair install has finished, you will now be downgraded to the Windows 11 Home edition without losing anything. (see screenshot below)

Windows_11_edition.png

9 If your Windows 11 Home is currently not activated by a digital license, then you will need to Change product key to a valid Windows 11 Home key to activate.

Windows_11_activation_state.png

That's it,
Shawn Brink

Thanks for the response!

Though... would I need to change the REG file provided or can I just run it as is without changing to get that version installed?

How do I follow this guide with my situation?

I have windows 11 pro and want to downgrade to 11 home.

I installed the windows 11 pro using the unsupported hardware way. When I try to downgrade using the instructions at the start, I run the windows 11 ISO and it says I can't do an in-place refresh because it's on unsupported hardware.

Sorry I meant an in-place repair, not refresh

Hello, :alien:

You can try using option 3 in the tutorial below before doing the repair install.

I’ve run the registry editor and double checked the edit to reflect the changes, when I run the windows 11 installer I get this error when it boots back up. “

I tried this, but the reinstall still promps with Windows 11 Pro.
Even if I changed the registry entries.
Is there something else I must do to make the installation choose Home?

Got the same problem. I restored an image from a Pro installation (because the Home on this PC was messed up).
Tried to downgrade using this tutorial. Men the setup still says Windows 11 Pro at the "Ready to install" screen :-(

Search the registry again and changed all the values I found for all 3 values (found several):

EditionID = Core
ProductName = Windows 10 Home

But they seem to change back after a while :-/

Also last time when I tried to run setup I got this critical error:

We have trouble determing if this PC can run Windows 11
Error code: 0x80070003 - 0x40008

Qny advice?

Just to verify, did you use the REG in step 1 first?

If so, you might try using the Media Creation Tool at step 6 instead.
