What are the steps to dual-boot Windows and Linux®?
To dual-boot Windows and Linux®, you'll need to follow these general steps:

Create a partition on your hard drive for the Linux® installation.
Download the Linux® distribution of your choice and create a bootable universal serial bus (USB) drive or digital video disc (DVD).

This is a question only you can answer really.

1. if you need Windows 11 then install Windows 11
2. if you need Linux, then install Linux.
3. if you need both, then you have multiple options
3.1 Install Windows, then install WSL
3.2 Install Windows, then install Linux as a VM
3.3 Install Linux, then install Windows as a VM
3.4 Dual boot Windows and Linux
3.5 Install Windows on one computer and Linux on another and then share all files either over LAN directly or have a NAS where both computers have access to shared files or use cloud storage.

Everything really is up to your personal requirements. All the options mentioned has their pros and cons.

Dual Boot Windows 11 + Linux on the same NVMe SSD or seperate (two NVMe's)?
 
i use Linux as my daily driver but have Windows 11 24H2 in VM (Gnome Boxes)
that works for me. there are 5 computers in the house 4 of them run Windows
and only 1, my system, runs Linux. it really is a choice only you can make.

I would separate Windows and Linux on separate physical drives, but both on same drive is fine too if you have enough space to do so.

I personally run Linux Mint Cinnamon, but Arch and Manjaro are very good too. Mint is the most convenient, while Arch is a lot harder to setup and a lot can go wrong. Once working it is a bit snappier though.

I can't be without my Primary Windows 11 because all games and software. Dual Boot is the only option.

You really need to explain to us what you need Linux for. Until then we can't really help further. There are a multitude of options to choose from.

I need Linux for gaming and use my AMD Radeon RX 9070 not Virtual GPU.

I have Windows 11 VM in VirtualBox for testing apps etc. and i don't need Linux VM because i need real GPU not Virtual in Linux.

I also don't like GPU Passthrough in KVM in Linux because less RAM, No CPU Temperature, CPU Power because it's Virtual CPU. Maybe KVM without GPU Passthrough. VM is for testing not gaming.
 
I have Windows 11 with Virtualbox. I have several Linux distros in VMs and it works very well. Linux Mint Cinnamon is my favorite.

Linux Mint is way better than any Ubuntu derivative, most drivers are available and can run mostly OOB.

This makes absolutely no sense. Unless you're only playing Linux specific games. In all other cases, you're most likely leaving 20% of performace on the table, and games with kernel level anticheat won't even run on Linux.

For gaming, prefer Windows, because most games are compiled for Windows and Windows only. For everything else, you can get along with Linux.

A handful of gaming titles, runs better on Linux however, but those are very few.
