Solved Edge Shortcut on Desktop

hi all

didnt get here much before now but have a 5th machine being Win 11, ugh....(Lenovo Ideacentre AIO 3 24 ARE05)

now to business, left computer on unattended today and came back to it and somehow a Microsoft Edge shortcut has appeared on the desktop, i'm a die hard FF user and havent opened Edge on this machine since acquiring it.

have disabled all IE & Edge thingamabbobies with O&O ShutUp10++ and disabled in startup via task manager so i'm a little confused as to how this has occured.

any ideas anyone ?

yeah did that, no big deal just curious.

have one drive as in 1 drive yes, SSD or
onedrive as in cloud crap no.

I noticed the same. But have no idea how or why. I simply deleted the shortcut as you did.

Strange. I looked on my desktops and didn't see an Edge shortcut. I use Edge as my primary browser. Maybe they're sticking the Edge shortcut on desktops for those who don't use Edge?

Maybe. I never use it, except in those cases where I do something MS can hijack to a call for Edge/Bing.

Edge just auto updated within the last couple of days. May be the reason though you have it disabled.

after a bit of a look around i found 3 instances of scheduled updates for Edge in Task Scheduler which is more than likely the culprit for this.

also found a humongous amount of other windows app schedules as well as FF and Xbox.

this may be of assistance to others seeing this shortcut appear.

The latest Edge Stable update, brought it right back to the desktop again.

Simple delete, of course. I suppose this will be an ongoing thing now.

+1 here. It happened to me, as well, and I also see it in the latest installed programs in Control Panel > Programs

Well, I'm glad I am not the only one to see this behavior. The Edge shortcut turned up on my desktop twice last week. I just deleted them and assumed it was a Edge update. But I wish they would stop doing that. I don't use Edge for anything, but I use to find Edge running with the Task Manager. But that seems to have stopped.

Edge(Chromium) is my default browser on both of my computers. I keep clean desktops with no icons of any kind. Today's Edge update did not install an icon on either computer desktop.

I believe recent updates retired Internet Explorer. The Shortcut might have been put on machines where IE was disabled.
