Personalization Enable or Disable Desktop Stickers in Windows 11

Desktop_Stickers_banner.png

This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable Desktop Stickers for all users in Windows 11.

Desktop Stickers is a feature in Windows 11 that allows you to choose and edit stickers for your wallpaper when using a picture and choose Fill for your desktop background image.

Using the new sticker editor you can pick, place, and resize stickers as you like. It can be accessed through Settings or by right-clicking your desktop.

When you change your desktop background picture, your stickers will still remain.

Reference:

The Desktop Stickers feature is currently not officially released to Windows 11 yet, but if you would like to give Desktop Stickers a play with now, you can enable Desktop Stickers in Windows 11 version 22H2 build 22621 and higher now.

You must be signed in as an administrator to enable or disable Desktop Stickers.

Desktop Stickers currently does not support multiple displays.

Enable Desktop Stickers at your own risk!!

Desktop Stickers has not officially been released to Windows 11 by Microsoft yet, so it may still have or cause issues. Future changes might remove the feature or enable it by default.

If you enable Desktop Stickers and it doesn't fully work or causes issues, then you can just disable Desktop Stickers.

Here's How:

1 Do step 2 (enable) or step 3 (disable) below for what you would like to do.

2 Enable Desktop Stickers

A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

Enable_Desktop_Stickers_in_Windows11_22H2_build_22621_and_higher.reg

(Contents of REG file for reference)
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PolicyManager\current\device\Stickers]
"EnableStickers"=dword:00000001

3 Disable Desktop Stickers

This is the default setting.

A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

Disable_Desktop_Stickers_in_Windows11_22H2_build_22621_and_higher.reg

(Contents of REG file for reference)
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PolicyManager\current\device\Stickers]
"EnableStickers"=-

4 Save the .reg file to your desktop.

5 Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

6 When prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

7 Restart the computer to fully apply.

8 You can now delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.

That's it,
Shawn Brink

DesktopStickerEditor is a Win32 app inside Client.CBS which creates a new background image by pinning PNG images over your current wallpaper. Because it leaves your original wallpaper untouched, it can update the background at any time.

The composite image is AppData\Local\Packages\MicrosoftWindows.Client.CBS_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState\StickerComposed.jpeg

Inside the same folder is StickerCache.json, which reveals Windows is downloading PNG images from... Office!!
