Lock_Screen_banner.png

This tutorial will show you how to turn on or off Get fun facts, tips, tricks, and more on your lock screen for your account in Windows 11.

The lock screen (aka: welcome screen) is the screen you see at startup and when you lock the computer (Win+L). You will need to dismiss the lock screen to to see the sign-in screen and sign in to Windows.

Users can change their lock screen background to Windows Spotlight, a picture, or a slideshow by default.

When you select to use picture or slideshow as your lock screen background, you can select to Get fun facts, tips, tricks, and more on your lock screen.

If you have more than one display, the lock screen will only show on the main display.

I did this. I have to do this 2 or 3 times a day. It keeps reverting back to "1" in the registry. Is this normal? I don't know what is doing this other than MS trying to control my life.

Hello, :alien:

This is not normal. Which build of Windows 11 do you currently have installed? Could be a bug.

If that doesn't help, then there was a new build released on the 26th below that may help.

Hope it works.

If it does, don't forget to temporarily pause updates until the next update is released so this one doesn't just get auto installed again.

I have been trying different things and I see a pattern. I am sure it only has to do with me, but...

If I have Windows Spotlight set in Lockscreen, I see the Fun facts. That is to be expected.
If I change the reg to remove the fun facts, after a short period of time, Spotlight will revert to Pictures.
When I change from Pictures to Spotlight again, after a period of time, the fun fact will reappear.
A vicious cycle begins.
Now, I do not have the period that this happens, usually if the laptop is in a long lockscreen. But If I leave the fun fact running (I seldom see them because I am out of the lockscreen quickly) then Spotlight stays and does not revert to Pictures.

Very strange. I did do a restore back to 22H2 but nothing has changed. I am still in 22H2 right now.

So, the fix for me is to just leave well enough alone.

Thanks for your help on this,
Brian D

OK, last update. I honestly believe that with 23H2 new PC install, one cannot have Windows Spotlight on locksceen without allowing Fun Facts. Turn off Fun Facts and Lockscreen reverts to Pictures. Turn on Spotlight, windows resets Fun Facts. I have proven this on my HP running Win 11 23H2 22631.4169. Now, this may not hold true to legacy installs from Windows 10, or possibly 1st gen Windows 11, but on my machine, one cannot be had without the other.

Sorry to beat this dead horse.

Hello Brian, :alien:

That's correct.

The Get fun facts, tips, tricks, and more on your lock screen setting is only available when you have a picture or slideshow set as your lock screen background.

Nice, I am sure I never saw that info anywhere. Probably did not look hard enough. But I am sure you miss typed that. Should it not read:

"The Get fun facts, tips, tricks, and more on your lock screen setting is only available when you have Windows Spotlight set as your lock screen background."

The reason I say that is because that is the only time I see the Fun Facts is when the Windows Spotlight is active. I couldn't eve get Slideshow to work. Oh well. Like I said, last time I will mention this.

I really do appreciate your help and advise. Let me what else I can brake. LOL

Nice, I am sure I never saw that info anywhere. Probably did not look hard enough. But I am sure you miss typed that. Should it not read:

You're most welcome Brian. :shawn:

Thankyou. This has been something that has needed solving for years. Great! It just feels like advertising, so great to remove.

On reg edit works, the tick box doesn't exist on my computer.

As MK111 was saying in 11/2024 I don't have it in Settings either but do have it set in the Registry.

All it ever shows for me is about the Wallpaper image it's showing so it's quite fun. I don't get the "tips" or "tricks" just the "fun facts". Can't say I notice them tbh. But I don't get the complaints on Windows 11 in general. Compared to other Windows releases, it's not the worst MS have put on us.
