Virtualization Enable or Disable Hyper-V in Windows 11

  • Staff
Hyper-V_banner.png

This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable the Hyper-V feature for all users in Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Hyper-V enables running virtualized computer systems on top of a physical host. These virtualized systems can be used and managed just as if they were physical computer systems, however they exist in virtualized and isolated environment. Special software called a hypervisor manages access between the virtual systems and the physical hardware resources. Virtualization enables quick deployment of computer systems, a way to quickly restore systems to a previously known good state, and the ability to migrate systems between physical hosts.

When Hyper-V is enabled, each account can use Hyper-V Manager (virtmgmt.msc) to manage their own virtual machines.

Hi Shawn,
I don't have Hyper-V in my Home version (see attached), but recently noted a warning in HWINFO that Hyper-V is active (attached). Also noted that my RAM speed dropped by 2 GB/sec. after the 25 Aug. Win update. When I run the DISM command in your tutorial it states feature unknown. When checking Event viewer Info it states that Hyper-V has started? (see attached), and MS System info reports also that Hyper-V is running with the new Core Isolation security, so I guess I have Hyper-V for Windows security?
Thanks
Frank

Hi Shawn
At the cost of rendering my favorite (daily) hardware checking program HWINFO64 unreliable and slowing down my memory with 2 GB/sec and who knows what other issues will pop up with Core Isolation? Is this new security thing usefull?:(
Thanks

It can be helpful for better security, but it can be a pain with incompatible drivers.

Just filed a feedback about Core Isolation, maybe it can run in the background instead of Hyper-V. All the trouble I went through to get my average RAM bandwidth to 29 GB/sec using dual channel, etc., is now 27 GB/sec, my boot time is not affected (fast startup).
